Forums - Gaming - Rumor: $99 Nexus 7 variant to launch before years end

Google is supposedly readying a version of their Nexus 7 tablet for only $99.

This is coupled with news of another Nexus 7 model which is expected to retail for the Nexus 7′s current price of $199.

Both versions will supposedly be thinner than the current model, and feature TN panel display technology made by HannStar Display.

Incidentally, HannStar has reportedly become part of Apple’s supply chain for the iPad, though the Taiwanese-based panel manufacturer has yet to confirm that it’s working with either tech giant.

Both new Nexus 7 models are expected to hit stores before the end of 2012, and if the rumors are true, we expect a $99 Nexus tablet to make a great stocking stuffer.

How many rooms does your house have?

Maybe Nexus 7 tablet (1st gen) drops to 100-150 and the next one is 200-250. Just like apple does it. Maybe also ad supported.

Four. I am joking of course but if true then I'll definitely get one. I love the 7 inch form factor. I loved the Galaxy Tab 7.7 also but it is old news now and still very expensive.

No, this newer version is thinner. There is another one which will be more powerfull for 200. Check out the OP!
Just noticed from the source it's a rumour, so I'll be tagging it as that.

You can buy at least two for each room. Jokes aside, I've played around with my cousins Nexus 7 and I like the size too. Was going to order one for Xmas, but this news is music to my ears.

Yep, my wife is buying me one for Christmas (she just doesn't know it yet).

You are going to put the idea in her head using inception. :)

Wtf...how will they offer it for $99? Surely it will be less powerful than the current one then?

Of course Pezus, it will probably be of quite inferior quality if Google and Asus want the normal Nexus to sell really well. Having multiple tablets of much different quality should help the Nexus build a well known brand name. Tablets are still not even close to selling at there full potential so it really is not a bad way to spread their popularity.

I don't see how they will hit a $99 price point. I was shocked at what they were able to pack into the $199 version but halfing that price seems unreasonable.
