Forums - Gaming - Google stock just hit a record high and MSFT has grown as well.

Only a year ago, GOOG was sitting at $530, now it's at $760.

Nokia was at $5.50 a year ago, and is now $2.80

MSFT was $25.50 a year ago, and now is $30.80

GOOG increased at about twice the rate of MSFT, but both companies did pretty well this year.  Google in particular is now considered to be doing pretty well in mobile, and should show even more growth with android.  GOOG should also take some marketshare away from Facebook with its Google+ service according to the CNBC analysts yesterday.  Nokia, unfortunately hasn't seen a stock jump from its new smartphones coming out, so the markets dont seem too keen on Nokia right now.  It doesn't seem like a great investment, judging from the reaction.

Google+ isn't going to take marketshare away from anyone until Google finds a way to make it relevant to the average social networking schmuck. At this point, even freakin' Pinterest is more useful to the average person than G+ and it's not even close to being in the same league as Facebook or Twitter.

No, G+ is already retarding FB growth, and just got 400million accounts.....the relevancy comes with the numbers which are growing faster than expected. Google displays G+ threads that appear in the top 10 of a search for users that are googling while logged into Gmail or whatever, and that is really helping the growth. The expectation was that G+ would reach 400 million accounts by the end of the year, but it did so earlier than expected.

Btw, Twitter had 140 million active users in march of this year.....Google just posted the stat of having 100 million active users ( and the total number of accounts, 400 million) , so it has a bit more to go to reach the status of twitter, but regardless, it seems doable now.

Google's recent announcement:

Twitter's active users as of March of this year (according to the Twitter folks)

Go visit Google+.

Then go visit Twitter.

Now tell me with a straight face that G+'s "active users" are as active as Twitter's "active users". The same goes for Facebook. G+ is a B-level social network and it will be until Google finds a way to get the average person to start using the service like they do Facebook and Twitter.

Shit, I like Google+. I think it has loads of potential and I defended the shit out of Google when they implemented the single login system to make G+ work properly. But right now, it's mostly a ghost town. Why? Because it has no discernible advantage over Facebook or Twitter in their respective markets. It's too much of a "me too!" implementation of social networking. People are comfortable with Facebook and Twitter. They have no reason to jump ship to a platform that offers few (if any) advantages.

I just gave you the stats RP. From what I posted, twitters active users are almost one and a half times as high, but the disparity is shrinking, bc Google has more $$$$ and resources to make the product better. So, in a year's time, G+ may very well be bigger, and the trend is in G+'s favor as well.

Exactly how does Google make money from Android?

@Kowenicki
Yeah, but Nokia just had a 13% recent share price slump didn't it?

Social networks aren't as relevant as most people make it seem as most companies have yet to find a good way to monetize all their users...
So in that regard Google is in a very good position...

PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !

PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !

But it is still up 60% since the end of July.

True. But having a quick look at the data shows that's not surprising considering the depths it was coming from at the end of July.

But yeah, up from July. Overall It's not impressive no matter how you look at it.

I wouldn't invest in Google or Microsoft (or Apple) at this point. Too expensive and low return.

Nokia however looks like an interesting buy and are more likely to double in value than the big 3. Go big or go broke is my moto.

Also, one company that looks like insane value right now is OCZ. they essentially couldn't make hard drives fast enough so they missed their revenue goal for the quarter and stock took a dive. When you can't make things fast enough, its usually a good sign...

G+ is horrible. i dont even understand how to properrly use it and nobody uses it anyway... they just create it to see how it is like i did but nobody uses that horrible service.

i dont understand Google is 760 and MSFT only 30 ? lol
