Nokia have always made great hardware the thing that killed them is they fell beghnd in software functionality.

Hopefully by focusing on what they do best and teamed with Micrososoft OS, they can get back on track and regain some market share.

Thanks for the link. I'm surprised at how well the iPhone 5 did. Seems like a step up from my old iPhone 4 camera, which I wasn't expecting.

Anyway, do people really plan to take nice looking photos with their phones? I basically use mine when I need to take a quick photo of something or if I'm out with friends or some situation like that. At times when I know I'll have a good photo opportunity I always take my MILC Panasonic GX1X or my girlfriends Pentax DSLR (has a nice zoom lens). I never even bother with my phone...

The Lumia 920 is truly an amazing piece of technology. The proof is in the proof is in the pudding. That Engadget photo shoot-out is astonishing in that the 920 manages to make some competing high end phones look like utter garbage. The iPhone 5 is a decent runner-up but really, who would have thought?

For me, it's not just the camera, or its amazing display (works with gloves, nails etc...), or NFC or wireless charging... But the fact that they managed to put all that in a single device that will be running a pretty darn hot OS. I haven't been this excited for a smart phone since the original iPhone. Really, release this thing already.

I wish the best for Nokia with their new smartphones. Always liked their stuff.

All phones coming out right now are pretty damn amazing. That Lumia is very impressive, the SIII is quite a piece of hardware, and I can't wait for my iPhone 5 to get shipped shortly :)

I think it's likely true to say that more photos are being snapped with phones than dedicated cameras these days (they're completely wiping out the point & shoot camera market!), so why shouldn't those phone cameras be as good as they can possibly be?

No doubt they should be as good as possible, but fitting a big lens on a phone is simply not going to work and Nokia lying about the true capabilities by using dslrs in their photo shoots is very misleading.

Still can't match my 13 year old point and shoot 2mp Nikon Coolpix 950. Sadly that one recently died and I replaced it with a 16mp Canon powershot for on the go pictures. It's not bad, but the extra resolution doesn't do much as that tiny lens simply can't focus all that precisely.

The recent iPhone add had a cool feature though, automatically making a panaroma picture by slowly moving the camera around. No doubt it won't look as good as on the commercial but a fun gimmick. (which you probably won't use more then twice)

I havent tested any of these phones, i was just saying what i hear on podcasts and reviews for sites like engadget, the verge, tech radar etc...

For the record, Nokia didn't lie.  The advertising company that they used failed to put a disclaimer on the advertisement that what was shown was a simulation, just like the iPhone commercials show things in ways that aren't representative on the real world (e.g. one with a disclaimer and one without).  It was a mistake, not a lie.  If so, MANY advertisments are flat out lies that should be called out just as much.

As for that panorama feature ... bwhahahahaaa.  The even the iPhone has had panorama apps that are more impressive than that for years.  I hear no one talking about that because it's so derivative.
