Business-wise, it's a good move. Sony want to maximize their profits. A new generation is approaching and they need all they can get to start strong. Besides, we all saw how the 360 S did without a price cut

I believe that the Xbox 360 s redesign is different from the Ps3 Slim 2.0 redesignbecause of numerous reasons. 1-5 From the most important to the least.

1. Xbox 360S actually added some crucial features compared to its predecessor.

2. It had the kinect port in which most people thought that the kinect wont work on original models.

3. The Xbox 360S was THE GUARANTEED ANSWER to the predecessor's reliability problems.

4. The FIRST redesign always makes the largest impact.

5. MS actually came up with abetter design and the sexiest console this gen. You've go to say, Xbox 360S is one helluva sexy console.

Yay!!!

They're making more money on each PS3 sold now, and sales are great.

No cutting the price is not a big mistake, the mistake is te price increase. That is a dumb ass move.

Maybe they are waiting for Microsoft's move (the alleged 'Xbox 361') before deciding? Moreover, cutting the price of the current slim might do some unwanted damage so they might want to clear the stock of those before deciding om their next move. Wonder if Nintendo will be cutting the price of the Wii?

Their NEX lineup seems to be doing pretty well to me.

They have acceptable sales for an old console, and they need the money. Why should they do a price cut, when they sell ok-ish? If they have to do a price cut, it's on their other console, the new one which is becoming irrelevant.

They need money, and they think a price cut will not be effective against the Wii U. Better to cut price of PS3 right before PS4 because that will be most effective in killing its sales.

Does Sony still lose money with every sold unit?

Because they cant afford it and because it isn't necessary.

I was gonna say, back when the PS3 super slim was first rumoured, people were saying that Sony would be stupid to cut the price because they need money, and the PS3 is already selling 'alright' enough for it to not be worth cutting the price.

It would be gaining marketshare vs. making more profits, and by this point in the game (and Sony's financial state), the profits are far more important.

So for the first time ever, Kowenicki, I have to say that I completely agree with you.

answer #1 they expect the retailers to set the price (they saw nintendo do that in eu)

No. Their phone business is doing awesome, especially in Europe.
