Forums - Gaming - PS Vita and PS3 cross-play 'easily' rival Wii U, Sony says

That's obviously a good selling point of the vita but only the true gamers will most likely know it has this feature. Sony should try to advertise this feature more because its demonstrated with littlebigplanet 2 that it works, but its no good if nobody knows about it.

66 million people have a PS3, 3 million have a PSV so are developers going to support something only 1 in 22 (at best) gamers have access to?

I'm sure it can do what the WiiU can, but the low user base and high cost must surely cause big problems?

How many third party games are going to be compatible with this? I'm sure that less than 5 at the end of the PS3 life cycle. Every WiiU user has a WiiU gamepad, almost no PS3 user has a Vita.

Vita + PS3 = more money AND it's going to be a good deal weaker than the Wii U, especially when the Vita is weaker than the PS3. Not only that, but the Vita screen is smaller and there are so many other factors that make the PS3/Vita combo nothing really like the Wii U.

Except you need to buy two different consoles, both combined would be much more, very few games use the PS3/Vita connectivity, and there are no big titles that use it at all.

I think it's something Sony did to try to get more sales and to kill the Wii U momentum, and it's something that will barely sell systems.

You literally need two entire systems to use this one function. The Wii U doesn't.

Sometimes I don't understand Sony PR, this type of comments and the Gamescon presentation with the PS3+Vita play give WiiU free press. It seems that they are in full destruction mode.

I don't know, but seems to me like Sony should be playing up the fact that they have...what, five bundles coming out as the holidays draw closer for the Vita in order to compete? Cross Play and all that is fine, but trying to say 'We were a WiiU before it was cool,' or something to that extent really sends a message that they're nervous as all hell and that maybe their marketing guys need to start earning their money.

Sounds reasonable in the world where current Vita sales are acceptable.

:D

Sony can only utilize this feature for gimmicks like having the map or the inventory on the vita. so some little features in multiplatform games which can be done on the wiiu, could be ported to ps3/vita. no gamechanging mechanics, just gimmicks.

but i like this idea!
once i play GTA5 and receive the ingame sms / calls on my vita, i am happy.

must-have-list for platforms i don't own yet:

WiiU: Donkey Kong

XBone: Dead Rising 3, Ryse
