Forums - General - Russian crater filled with over $1 quadrillion in diamonds

People will mysteriously disappear and/or die. Diamonds will still be expensive.

Except these are lower class diamonds not what would be used for commercial sale.

The great majority of diamonds mined are destined for industrial use already anyways. Most likely the article mentioned it as a disclaimer for those believing the russians have an endless suply of jewels at hand.

Still this could be an extremely powerful economic weapon. Full-scale mining could make a market worth billions collapse. Hey, it could end the blood diamond conflicts in Africa.

....Uhmmmm....are you making some kind of statement based on analysis or just talking for the sake of talking?

what's your beef with Israel ?

Wrong thread, but I have wife with Palestinian roots, studied middle eastern history as a minor. I want Israel to follow international laws and hope that someday US will actually be a real unbiased negotiator in the region and forcea two-state solution. My religious views have nothing to do with it and slimebeast and I have a history with this topic.

lol if you've researched this topic before you should have notized that there hardly exists any products with a "Made in Israel" label on. Israeli companies know consumer hate is too strong against them to even try to make a product like that. Israeli products to international markets are all middle-ware, meaning that they're part of another product when it meets the end user, and the consumer will never realize he bought something partly made in Israel.

I know, which is why I stopped caring. Too much time to invest to something that really won't do anything.

not bad I suppose, but it's nothing to get excited about, if this is as big as they reckon, as diamonds will become very cheap, with such a high supply

Prediction: Switch 2 will outsell the PS5 by 2030

Diamonds are a rip off and are very common in reality. De Bears (spelling?) controls the market and simply doesn't allow them to become common at retail. Additionally a very large segment go to Israel for cutting, so I simply don't buy them anyways.

Yes they would bee cheaper then glass if it wasn't due to the DuBeers. In some ways flooding the market would help because diamond constructed windows for example would be more durable and not break as easily as glass. Plus Diamonds are one form of the element Carbon which is the most available element on the planet.

What, no Minecraft joke in this thread?
That's odd.
Either way, let's see how the market will take those in...

What? It's common knowledge a very large supply of anything will push prices down dramatically. That's how the market works and any economist can tell you that. What part of that is so hard to understand for your mind?

I gave up medical school to study and work with financial and tax law so unlike certain posters here I'd think I'm allowed to talk about certain subjects more confidently without being harassed by annoying questions.

Its normally true but the Diamond industry is in the control of one family that sets the prices, controls the supplies and holds a lot of power. And it also depends on the quality of the diamonds. There is a such thing as "industral" diamons which is just refined carbon which isn't worth that much, and much of those diamonds could very well be industral diamonds. The ones that are not even if they are put on the market the ones that would buy them are the DuBeers who would sit on them like they have for many other deposits of diamonds to keep the prices up.
