Forums - Nintendo - Harada [Tekken] on Wii U online: "I don't fully understand it"

One unanswered question has been lingering in the air since Nintendo’s big coming out party for the Wii U last week: How will the online infrastructure be an improvement over past Nintendo consoles (if at all)? Developers must know, right? Well, apparently not.

Tekken Tag Tournament 2 director Katsuhiro Harada didn’t sound like he had confidence in Nintendo’s new online system, during a roundtable interview at Namco Bandai HQ. When asked about how the Wii U's online infrastructure will compare to that offered on 360/PS3, Harada responded:

"Not quite sure at this point. I don't fully understand it. We’re still working with Nintendo to find out about their network."

Around the Network

Also, last paragraph of the article:

With a US release of November 18, it's hard to believe this response. Harada emphasized that the netcode will be as solid as those of competing systems, but it's still a mystery how players will connect and play online. He also wouldn't confirm whether the Wii U exclusive modes will be playable online.

That's not the same as lacking confidence in it but it's not a good sign either.

"[fully] understand" would be better.

Title sound like he's a total klutz about it. Maybe it's just minor details.

this coming from a guy who thinks clock speed is the most important part of a CPU lol.

Around the Network

This is worrisome since the console is 2 months away from launch.

I really hope Nintendo delivers what they've been promising on the OS side.

I know the Capcom USA guy (whose name escapes me right now) said only a few days ago that they're also largely in the dark about the details of Nintendo's online, and that the US offices haven't even received final kits for the system.

He never said he does not understand the network in terms of his game etc. He has simply no idea what exactly Nintendos future plans are and what exactly the networks "identity" is and how it will stand out from the crowd. Thats also why he  said " not fully understand"

Another of those misinterpreted quotes... *sigh*

I'm also calling this bad news, because Nintendo largely stayed dark about what exactly Wii online would entail until the console's first online game launched (Pokemon Battle Revolution, a launch title in Japan).

MiiVerse looks good, but where are the nuts and bolts?

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

I don't understand it either, because I haven't used it yet lol....
