I blame HDD price fixing high prices.

Doesn't explain ludicrous price of 12GB model though.

I think the only boost that Sony will get is the current slim stock clear out lol.

Interesting theory. Consumers flock to the old model because of the new pricing. Then when those are all sold, drop the price and watch them scramble. PS3 will win this gen yet, lol.

But really this is a tad misleading thread but still the fact is rather confusing. The 250gb in the US is a bundle...but despite that it should have stayed the same price of the model it was replacing, as of yet there is no word on if that $269 price is only for the bundle and once it is avaialble as stand alone it will be $249. Very confusing. As for the 500gb, well that is priced right at $299 and comes with Assasins Creed 3, pretty awesome. They should have launched the 12gb as well for $199, with that as the entry price no one would have batted an eye at the $269 shenanigans. Despite the bundle and larger HDD making it still better than the previous stand alone at $249 they set themselves up for a little controversy.

That is IF they drop the price.

Anyway, I pretty much agree with everything you said.

Sell a cheaper cost system at a higher price to maximise profits. Sounds like a good business policy. Now advertise it as a must buy and just watch the super profits roll into Sony's bank account.

If they are that stupid to increase the price of the console instead of decreasing it. Then I am courios to see how much they will charge for the PS4 even 800$ would not surprise me anymore.

I suspect this/these new units will at frist be used for bundling. After some time Sony will most likley begin to sell them as stand alone for $169, $199, and $250 for the 12gb, 250gb and 500gb respectively.

I expect retailers to do whatever they want with the current slims. But don't expect an official price from Sony til November or even December 2012.

I really think there is a traitor in the business side of sony's gaming division.. a master-troll that keeps telling sony to sell things at a high price.. lol not cutting the vita price and releasing a redesign ps3 at little more expensive than the current price.. lol.. this is just too good really!

Good Point.

People are complaining about the €229 price of the new 12GB model in Europe, but i think we will see this model being sold for €200 in most stores during holiday.

This European exclusive model is perfect for a Fifa 13 bundle.
