Forums - PC - Brigade 2 Engine - A new visual high point

This video has a bit better artwork and less graininess (sacrificed framerate)

And a trailer of It's about time, a game being developed with the Brigade 2 engine

Looks pretty. Basic specs to run it?

Well any GPU with OpenCL support will run it. The screens are from a demo running at 720p 60FPS on a GTX 590 tho so if you want decent performance you are going to need a couple high end GPUs. And as it's basically a software renderer running via GPGPU a Femi GTX 5X0 or GCN HD7XX0 would be best.

2 GTX 580 GPUs for low framerate or lots of noise. GPU's still need to get quite a bit more powerful before ray tracing becomes viable in 1080p60

Am I missing something here? I don't see anything ground-breaking from the pictures OP posted, if anything that final fantasy agni's philosophi looks more next gen than the brigade engine. Sure it looks bright and clean but the textures are very plain and the whole thing looks to have no depth.

Intel core i7 930 OC @ 4.0 ghz

XFX Double dissipation Radeon HD 7950 356 bit 3gb GDDR5 OC @ 1150 MHz core + 1575 x 4 memory

Triple channel DDR 3 12gb RAM 1600 MHz

man, ray tracing is such a turn on for me, it uses so much raw power, so fucking hot.

raytracing on next gen consoles??? I dont think so... nice looking demo though!!

No, definitely not on next gen consoles, thus, why I put this in the PC section. :)

Ok, I see. All it makes sense now.

Looking at the pics on the OT, the water reflections looks very nice, the water however looks like jelly, someone said that it looks like mercury and I think it does a lot. I wonder if they did it on porpose to show the water reflections?...

They just have it set to reflective so it acts like a mirror in that build. Eventually they should have good translucency/refraction which should allow for amazing looking glass and water but it's still WIP. Hopefully they will get to the point where their high performance ray tracing can rival Nvidias Raytracing demo for that stuff.

I admire their enthusiasm and dedication, but nVidia OptiX is lightyears away from Brigade, and honestly I don't see them catching up anytime soon - specially since nVidia is owner of Mental Images (bought them in 2007), creators of Mental Ray which is one of 2 industry standards for offline rendering, so they have access to REALLY good stuff there ;)

The engine is really coming along nicely, I still don't think we will see this used in a mainstream game for another 5 years.

I think it looks awesome.

Ongoing bet with think-man: He wins if MH4 releases in any shape or form on PSV in 2013, I win if it doesn't.
