Another $200 drop?

Correct me if I'm wrong here.

60gig went from 600-500
Same with 80gig(took the place of the 60gig)

20gig got discontinued
and 40gig(stripped of a lot of things) got introduced at 400dollars(20gig previously at 500dollars which the 40 gig replaced)

Yes from the 60gig - the 40 gig its a 200 dollar difference but the 80 gig took over the 60 gig not the 40 gig. the 80 gig along with it predecessor got a 100 dollar price cut. the 40 gig took over the long time discontinued 20 gig had a 100 dollar price difference.

I fail to see the 200 dollar price cut.

I completely forgot to mention the production costs of the blu-ray drive lowering.

So to answer your question....

 Yes, with the lowering production costs and the new cheaper small chips they possibly could drop by another 100 dollars.

Lol. They discontinued the 20gb cause they were losing so much on it and desperately slashed features they had previously claimed were "core" features to get the main console price from $600 to $400. It was a massive set of price drops.

so... the 60 gig suffered a 200 dollar price cut? so it is selling for 400 now?(if there are any left) Same with 80 gig. 200 dollar price cut it was 600 at first so now its 400? if they still had the 20gig it would go from 500 - 300? and the 40 gig was introduced at 400. your telling me that it should be 600 with the 80 and 60gig even with the massive skimpage?

Just to make sure people are aware here -- predicting 13M+ sales for the PS3 is an increase of more than 66% in sales year over year.

You have to realise that merely being theoretically able to drop the price a further $100 doesn't mean they will. Doing so would guarantee another year of loses on hardware which Sony would hate to have to sell to their shareholders.

Basically it comes down to try and capture market share (of which pricedrops are not always effective - see GC) or try and make money off your hardware. Your always trying to do #1 but at some point you really must do #2.

Yes, I understand this, but what you have to take into consideration is the following:

The PS3 was not released in Others until March, also when it was released in Europe it was at a huge price.  It is now £125 cheaper to buy a PS3 in the UK than it was in March which is a huge 30% pricecut.  Yes, it's a different model, but it is effectively the same console.   In Others, the PS3 has sold near 4m units in just 9 months, most of these months being at the higher price.

The same applies to NA as well.  The price has dramatically been reduced and the sales are pretty good.

Add to this, the potentially much larger selection of games being released this year, with a whole multitude of BIG hitters including MGS4, GTA4, Killzone 2, Resistance 2 amongst others.

I honestly reckon that the PS3 can potentially sell as many as 13m, although I reckon 11m is more realistic. 

I'm going with "too soon to tell."

Depends on if Sony cuts prices and win... and if the big PS3 exclusives make it out on time. 

Although they better take their time... as a game done poorley would be even more catastrophic.

optimistic sales: 14-15 mln.
realistic sales: 11-12 mln.

with 299$-349$ price PS3 will do new hardware records by the end of this year. Of`course if FFXIII anf GT5 will be released THIS year.
