Will NextBox and PS4 be double the power of the Wii U like the PS360 were to the Wii? I doubt it will be double, but most would agree they will be true next gen machines.

Why do folks continue to insist on saying this, as if the only thing that qualifies a game console as being "next gen" is how much superior the visuals are to previous generations?

Newsflash... the Wii U is more powerful than PS360, and is capable of doing things that neither of those consoles can do like displaying a multiplayer shooter in full HD at 60 fps on a TV screen while simultaneously displaying the game on the controller's second screen for player 2.  And the visuals, AI, and other features for Wii U games will only improve as developers move their resources from PS360 to creating games and engines from the ground up with all 3 next gen consoles in mind.

And if you really think that the jump from current gen to PS4 and 720 is going to be leaps and bounds over current gen consoles right when they launch next year like we saw at the beginning of the HD era this gen, then you are sorely mistaken.  If you want a glimpse as to what you can expect from those consoles at launch, just look at games like Star Wars 1313 or Watch Dogs.

I don't think of the Wii U being next gen right now.  That's not a knock on the Wii U, either.  I believe next gen to be a function of both hardware and software.  The Wii U might be next gen hardware but the majority of titles appearing on it right now are current gen.  If it's playing the same titles as the PS4/720 after they launch, then, in my opinion, it will be "next gen".  Long story short, next gen isn't here yet.

On topic, I think Microsoft is dedicated to Kinect.  If Kinect functionality becomes integrated into the 720, which raises the price tag, then I'm not really going to be interested.  I hope that Sony, at least, stays core-centric.  I'm really not all that interested in "innovation" with regards to motion controls.

The one thing that probably has me most optimistic for the PS4 is the information from Sony Worldwide Studios that developers like Naughty Dog were heavily consulted during the planing and design stages.

Sure Kinect is going to be packed it, but I don't think it will be the focus. But it doesn't matter to me so long has Halo stays the same and 343i seems like they only want to evolve Halo, not revolutionise it.

I always get all the systems, just not at the same time or at launch. If I had to pick only two it would be NextBox for Halo/Forza/Gears and Wii U for Mario/Zelda/Metroid.

WiiU and pc for me! I don't think MicroSony will have the 1st party games to lure me into buying one of their systems. They didn't convince me this gen, and probably won't next gen. Hopefully WiiU will get good ports this time around, and I'll have my pc for strategy.

This chart is how most people feel about the difference between generations and what they expect of the next generation:

So $599 for both 720 and PS4 confirmed then?  lol!

I expect the NextBox to be sold at a loss at the same price or lower to what the Xbox 360 launched at. I also expect Sony to match the PS4's price to the NextBox or be slightly more if they think they can get away with it. But most of all, I fully expect the Nextbox and PS4's hardware to be powerfull enough to put the Wii U in the same position that the Wii was in. By that I mean that devs who want to be on the cutting edge will have to choose between cutting the Wii U out completely or building seperate games for it that look like inferior ports like Modern Warfare 3.

you should know the poll result before you started the poll^^

Since this chart is unscientific, I'll let it pass. In reality I can't imagine MS and Sony going so far in terms of power... well, maybe one of them will. Maybe. Otherwise, I'd say Wii U sits right between 360 and 720(?).

I can see Micrososft taking a hit and I think their consoles ability will depend on how much of a hit they want to take, but can Sony atm afford to do that?

As others have said, Sony is the darkhorse in this race atm. If it goes all out again to beat 360, I can see Sony being in trouble, I really hope not as I like their games. I would be satified if PS4 was somewhere between wiiU and new xbox.

To say something people will probably misunderstand ...

I honestly have mixed feelings about the current generation of consoles graphical capabilities. While I don't see a need for dramatically more advanced effects in game, it would be really nice to see increased performance to reduce polygonalization and pixelation artifacts.

Hypothetically speaking, I don't think I would see a big need to get better graphics if you could double texture resolution and increase the number of polygons devoted to a particular model (in general a 50% to 100% increase should be enough). Certainly, the HD consoles don't produce photo-realistic graphics, but I don't really see the need for photo-realistic graphics.

No "PS•U•720" in the poll?

I'm going with WiiU and PS4 for my picks.

I just think the PS4 and Next-box are going to have similar power levels and therefore will likely share allot of third party games.

The WiiU also has an interesting controller and of course Nintendo games.
