No, it's not a tablet. I think most of us here know that. It does have a tablet sized screen though so I can imagine it will forever be called the tablet controller (he even admits it can do tablet stuff). The $100 price tag doesn't help matters either.

It is not a tablet any more than DS/3DS are considered tablets. It can do things a tablet can do, but so can DS/3DS. They bleed into each other but are not the same thing.
