Forums - Gaming - Bayonetta 2: Developers Explain Why They Sided With Nintendo

If Bayonetta had a fraction of the hype and press its sequel is getting at the moment, it would have sold tons better.

Bayonetta was massively hyped, the problem is most people were "no multiplayer? Not enough value I'll go back to COD and get it when it's cheap!". This is the reason the industry is actually in a massive crisis/transition at the moment. The market for B tier games has fallen through the floor. Add in the much higher development costs and the PS2 days and the massive craving for the highest production values and best visuals and you get what is happening at the moment. THQ etc are suffering the same problem hence also adjusting their business plans.

Around the Network

They didn't alienate any real fans, because real fans will buy the hardware that plays the games they want.

New/niche games have a better chance of selling well on a new console. Customers are more open-minded at that time than they are mid to late gen.

If it was on PS360, it would probably have sold worse than the first considering how saturated the sales of those consoles are thanks to a gen that has been going on to long.

Even if this was true, putting the title on all three consoles would still result in the most sales.

Exclusivity can be a strong alure for gamers so I would not be so sure of that.

I don't understand why this game is so important now

The outrage is not about the game per se, the outrage is because of the exclusion of consoles.   They are ditching the userbase that supported them, when they released the first game.

Since when are a userbase what matters? The people who bought bayonetta are not defined by the console they own, but by their tastes. As such, those that won't follow Bayonetta don't matter, because the series will find new customers on the other base. In terms of business, this is not an issue.

One would say this to be a feather in Nintendo’s cap but interestingly speculations on the web are suggesting the game to be timed exclusive for the Wii U.

How do they come to that kidn of conclusion when Nintendo is the publisher?
