So I was having this little discussion in the official WiiU conference thread.

If I'm right I'll be a VGC legend and if I'm wrong I'll have to leave the site forever in shame and live under a rock. My twin brother who thinks and expresses himself in exactly the same way and has a life 100% identical to mine will take over my account.

So, when people saw the 26250 and 31500 price tag everyone seemed to think 249 and 299. I say stop!

Nintendo are a conservative company that wants to be safe against current horrible exchange rates. They already did this with the 3DS, which costs 15000yen in Japan and $/€ 170 in US/EU.

Using the same ratio the 26250 and 31500 price tags would translate to 298 and 355. Isn't that too close to 299 and 349? Also, why the odd pricing in Japan otherwise instead of a round 25000 and 30000? I think Nintendo want that little extra safety net for exchange rates.

This ratio makes sense. How else would you translate the 13440yen tag? $100 is way too cheap compared to Japan, 199 way to expesive, 150 seems right and that would be another indication that they are indeed going for 299 and 349, since the ratio would be the same for the pad and the console.

No you won't. To be a legend you should had to say that on E3 2011. Saying it now is easier.

On topic: Remember that rumor/news that there was going to be 3 bundles at $ 250/300/350? I belive that those bundles and prices are true. The cheapest model will be the same as Japan but there will be a low number of them, "forcing" consumer to buy one of the other versions.

Meanwhile, the pessimistic in me thinks that in Europe we won't get the cheaper bundle. We will get the console for 300 € and 350 €, with the first one being the one with 32GB and the other one being the same but with a game bundled in.

So my prediction is $ 249/299/349 and 299/349 €.

As we saw with the Wii, the package and pricing of Nintendo consoles outside of Japan is not necessarily the same as the packaging and pricing of a console inside of Japan. I think it is possible that the Wii U may be $300/$349, but I also think that it is possible it would come with a bundled game.
