Also, i'm kinda surprised Tactics Ogre ranked... let alone ranked so high.

I mean it's an awesome game and pretty much the grandfather to EVERY SRPG not named Fire Emblem... but still... it rarely gets any respect.

Wait till Person of Lordly Caliber breaks the Top 20.

I believe.

That would be amazing, but I wonder if it got enough playtime.  TO probably got a lot of help due to the PSP re-release.

For what it's worth, I actually think both TO and Person of Lordly Caliber tell better stories then most final fantasy games.

I mean Tactics Ogre gives your the chance to play as someone who essentially comits genocide... and paints said character in a sympathetic "for the greater good" way... and not a "Muhaha evil for evil's sake" way.  It was Lawful or Chaotic, then Nuetral.   Not Good or Evil... and Lawful is what most would consider evil!

TO i think argueably excutes a moral choice system as well as any game out there yet to date.

Am I the only one who thought FF Tactics battle system kind of sucked? I liked Tactic Ogre::LUCT and FF Tactic Advance WAY better. I would say Tactics Advance has my favorite system. The original simply has a phenomenal story to back it up.

I'd agree.  FFT's battle system was broken.  Some classes ruled, others were completely useless... and the challenge level of battles would shoot up and down dramtically.

Then once you got Cid... it was more or less game over unless you just didn't use him.

I like PSP's TO: LUCT system best when it comes to battle systems though.

LUCT basically has the same battle system as Tactics except 2 key things. The ability to rewind time and get a do over is a total life save(also I don't think the enemies gauge with you which was very annoying). Second the fact you only have to level up a class one time and every one of that class becomes that level. Cuts down on senseless grinding.

Advanced was still a bit cooler to me tho. The Judge Laws system was super fun. I loved tricking an enemy to break the law and get booted from the fight.

Well... in the PSP version.

The original LUCT was a totally different beast.

Tagged. Most probably I won't agree with the rankings, but a reminder can be useful for my next purchases.

Well we have not seen any bethesda game yet and im sure they will be on there. So theres at least one bad spot for the top 40.

Fair enough even I have friends whose first Final Fantasy games were 8 or 9 but 7 left them with a great impact of satisfaction, and I'll quote Wada. "No Final Fantasy VII Remake Until Original Has Been Topped" -- Square Enix CEO. Wada admits that current FF games aren't up to VII's quality. Quality can mean a lot of things, so without a doubt 7 was the peak of the FF franchise before it went down hill.

Been topped in what way? You're ASSUMING quality, but the reason why Square focuses on FF7 so much is because of the numbers that were moved in the original. That's what Wada is talking about. He's not making a remake until Final Fantasy 7's SALES are topped. After all, how are they going to judge, quality-wise, whether a future Final Fantasy is as good as 7. There's no such meter in existance. Hence, Sales DO NOT equal quality.

I dislike Kafka. He wants to destroy everything for his own pleasure, even in Dissidia.. Really annoying.

Going ofF topic but I want to make this point before I bounce. Why FF7 series is held higher than most other FF games is because of all the side story you can do that wasn't part of the main game but were optional challenges. Keep in mind I'm talking about the series as a whole.

In the original game we have these memorable aspects.

-There are two optional characters you can get, also if you do get them they have their own side stories. (character development)

-Want to raise chocobos? You can get a gold one and find knights of the round

-you like fighting tough bosses? You got two weapons to kill

-mini-games and challenge battles?  Gold Saucer, and get Cloud final limit break, Omnislash

-you just want to play the story? You can ignore the above and beat Sephiroth

-you like tower defense games?  Junon Mako reactor.  Protect the Phoenix. Reward = Phoenix materia.

-Want to customize your characters? play around with different combinations of materia, and add the magic/skills/traits you want them to have.

**FF6 SPOILERS**

You realise that you have just walked into a trap discussing linearity and sidequests in FF6 vs FF7, because despite the sidequests in the first half of the game (Intangir etc.), the entire second half of FF6 is completely nonlinear. In fact, you can beat the game after saving just three of the 15 characters. Then there's the character building sidequests (Cyan's Dream, Phoenix Cave, Strago's quest), and other quests that just add to the story (Ancient castle, Colusseum, etc.) I found FF7's sidequests, while still rather plentiful, paled in comparison to FF6.

I'm surprised Fallout New Vegas made the list. Hopefully Fallout 3 is in the top 40. And wow they have Mass Effect 2 pretty low considering it got huge reviews and whatnot.
