I dislike Kafka. He wants to destroy everything for his own pleasure, even in Dissidia.. Really annoying.

Going ofF topic but I want to make this point before I bounce. Why FF7 series is held higher than most other FF games is because of all the side story you can do that wasn't part of the main game but were optional challenges. Keep in mind I'm talking about the series as a whole.

In the original game we have these memorable aspects.

-There are two optional characters you can get, also if you do get them they have their own side stories. (character development)

-Want to raise chocobos? You can get a gold one and find knights of the round

-you like fighting tough bosses? You got two weapons to kill

-mini-games and challenge battles?  Gold Saucer, and get Cloud final limit break, Omnislash

-you just want to play the story? You can ignore the above and beat Sephiroth

-you like tower defense games?  Junon Mako reactor.  Protect the Phoenix. Reward = Phoenix materia.

-Want to customize your characters? play around with different combinations of materia, and add the magic/skills/traits you want them to have.

**FF6 SPOILERS**

You realise that you have just walked into a trap discussing linearity and sidequests in FF6 vs FF7, because despite the sidequests in the first half of the game (Intangir etc.), the entire second half of FF6 is completely nonlinear. In fact, you can beat the game after saving just three of the 15 characters. Then there's the character building sidequests (Cyan's Dream, Phoenix Cave, Strago's quest), and other quests that just add to the story (Ancient castle, Colusseum, etc.) I found FF7's sidequests, while still rather plentiful, paled in comparison to FF6.
