Forums - Gaming - NISA needs to get proper credit for this. (And other Japanese guys need to be slapped in the face)

aye guys,

looking at Project Crystallis, (failing at) trying to get us Agito over, or Rainfall to bring the americans at least Xenoblade and The Last Story (<, tho' Xseed needs to be hugged for this aswell) and Namco and Square pretty much friggin failing at satisfying their western fanbase, i really want to raise attention to the guys at Nippon Ichi (/America), NIS(/A) in short. the games of those guys sell ABYSSMALLY, even more so in Europe and the rest of the world, where publishing is even worse than in the states (where i'd guess it shouldnt be too much trouble, considering that there are a lot of people under that one government, that only need to have the game translated into english), those guys keep on releasing their games EVURYWHEER! (IMPOSSIBRU!)

again, NISA's games sell poooorly, but for those couple of thousands, NISA keeps going. Is it the need to sell as much as possible to prevent bankruptcy, or is it (which would be way more awesome) the will to deliver to their loyal fans?

i don't know, and as much as i'd like to hear that its all purely to satisfy the fans, in the end i don't care really all that much. And do ya know why? because whoever wants to play the NISA games, can just go to the next shop and buy them.

So while this little known company publishes games for a couple of thousands of copies sold (Or hundreds, who knows) , Companies like Bamco, Squeenix and Sega (and a few others) refuse to publish games that'd probably end up selling at least twenty times as much as any NISA game ever would dare to sell. (except for maybe the Disgaea franchise, which is actually quite popular given the circumstances.)

So yeah, 2 things:

1.) i'm just pissed off by the fact that hundreds of thousands of bucks of pure profit (at worst) dont seem to be enough to care about the respective companies (mostly) loyal fans. Even worse is the fact that they don't even want to listen to you, cuz' most of them disallow any kind of contact, for example most of them shut off youtube comments completely, and in their forums, mods that are being pushed around are made up to look like they'd still care anyhow about you, while they actually don't. Not in the slightest.

2.) I could think of them arguing how they can't afford to spend time on things that make less money than lets they the companie's triple A title's, because they'd want to maxmize profit. I mean that'd be okay, those suckers are companies, and companies need to be hellishly productive in order to fullfill their purpose. so yeah, to prioritize on making much money instead of making little money is just reasonable, given the fact that every company has just a finite number of ressources...

... but wait. actually, if we talk about maximizing profit, wouldnt it be even better to get a small number of additional employee's, placing them somewhere in the basement and forcing them *cough cough*  to localize games that aren't exactly triple A, but still will turn out to make a little profit if published to get ALL the developed games out worldwide? thought so.

_______

i'm not a native, and i wrote this in a hurry, so i hopr this chunk of text isnt too messed up to understand, but anyway, i really wanted to get this off my mind, and i really look forward to your guys opinions on this.

I don't understand how only the smaller eastern publishers find this digital localization to be easy profit. Probably horrendous mismanagement. I think that NISA does deserve major praise for their practices. Breaks my crazy Japanese game loving heart that more aren't just taking the money from my wallet.

Sony should localize and publish them. Easy way to boost Vita exclusive content. It's as close to money hatting as they can afford.

I don't think NISA could continue to exist if they didn't make a profit.

Ask me about being an elitist jerk

Time for hype

The only game they've localized that I was happy with this gen is Sakura Wars 5, but yeah you do have to appreciate how NiS (and Atlus) just keep on going.

I'm not sure about Final Fantasy: Type 0.

That one I don't exactly blame them. Depending on their thought.

You can only release it once for the big initial sales (Which mean more profit). The PSP isn't really going to have great sales, so they might have thought about making it for vita. Except for those sales have been crap. So now it's ZOMG what do I do, release it on ipad/3ds idk.

What other games has SE not brought over? I think they just don't know what quite to do with/how to release it. They could just release it. As you say they could just port it to PSP, with a lot of localization, but idk.

You missed the point.

4 ≈ One

LOL my edit was not saved..... Its hilarious that people still give Project Reinfall (german for failure) credit for bringing XENO or Last Story to the US...

I agree that little profit is better than no profit at all. A lot of devs and publishers use 1 IP to fund others. So bringing more niche titles is not a problem at all just dont make 10000000 copies and then wonder why noone buys them if you didn't make  enought then its time for a reprint.

They should just hire 1 guy for a month that lives in a basement and translates the text and 1 guy to check the translators work. Noone needs voice overs which when in english are crappy anyways. And if you give your fans alot of games they want they are happy and everyone knows happy customers are good customers.

I don't know if I got your point but I fell your pain;

NISA is one of my favorite/most respected compaines, because what ever they release in Japan they break their necks to get it released in NA/EU, and not only that they basically give you a "collector's edition" like copy for picking it up! with games like Ar Tonelico/ Hyperdimension/ Atelier you got art books and CD soundtracks for $60, with other companies would charge you $70-$80 for the same thing.

then you have companies like S-E and Bamco who have much more cash in their pockets and refused to release/re-make games and bring them to the West because they might not be profitable/or be as profitable...they need to take a lesson from NISA.

I see what u did there fella.

of course Rainfall alone didnt convince Nintendo and/or Xseed, but i appreciate what they've done, because they've got attention, and there's absolutely nothing wrong with passionate Fans voicing their opinion.

Not really, you missed my point. Releasing it for the hell of it doesn't make sense. When releasing it correctly would create a lot more profit. Xseed has been in the same dillema with Trails in the Sky SC, with PSP except they've pretty much said they wouldn' make a profit if they released it on PSP, but at the same time they don't want to dissapoint fans, so they've been thinking of other options.

NISA hasn't released a game on PSP since march 2011. The PSP isn't still viable. But, releasing it on a different platform in the future can make more. Maybe they won't which would be stupid, and I'm not arguing about that. But Trails in the Sky:SC and Type-0, and Valkyria Chronicles III I understand because the psp sales are so crappy, and you can't really say NISA's released games on PSP in that timeframe.

I still think Type Zero will make to the US in some form Ipad, 3DS, Vita but idk. TiTS:SC might, and VC3 wont atleast imo.
