Forums - General - iPhone 5 - It's out today!

Well the earbuds do look like they're a whole lot better than the old ones. Finally no more stupid rubber rim thingies that peel off after a while. Sound probably improved too, I mean, why wouldn't it, so it's probably more or less true that they sound pretty good. I agree they won't get near headphones though, but that's marketing.

Anyway, liking the designs they showed.

Hilarious.

Doesn't even make sense.

earbuds and headphones

For them to sound unlike any earbuds the public have ever heard, Apple must have invented an entirely new way for humans to listen to sound, earbuds OR headphones. And the idea that they rival high end headphones is hilarious.

It's just about as close to false advertising as you can get, but I guess that doesn't count for much these days.

Oh I totally agree, but not with the "It doesn't make sense" part. It's totally over the top and probably lying but the statements don't contradict each other.

I was referring to the 'unlike any earphones you've ever heard' that doesn't make sense. I underlined the headphones part for the hilarity of that particular statement

No, it says "unlike any earbuds you have ever heard" and "on par with the best high-end headphones". So pretty much better than every other earbuds and on par with the best headphones. Marketing.

@underlined

That's the part that doesn't make sense. If they said 'better/rivalling' any earbuds you'd ever heard, it would just be a ridiculous claim (like the headphones one). The fact that they said 'unlike' doesn't make sense, purely scientifically. And I agree of course, its marketing bs.

Seeing how I purposely skipped the iphone 4 gen to wait for the 5, I'll probably get this at some point, but I'd rather wait either for a price drop or the inevitable iPhone 5s. For now, my 3gs is just fine. Happy to hear about the larger screen and improved camera, but other than that there's not much that wows me about this device.

iPhone 5: The biggest thing to happen to iPhone since iPhone

What? This is one of the smallest jumps. I remember the iPhone 3G jump being much bigger

That's funny, because the only hardware changes between the original iPhone and the 3G was a case redesign and 3G networking. And the redesigned case was actually bigger and heavier than the original.

This iPhone has a case redesign which is actually smaller and lighter, and improved cellular networking plus:

- Larger, more colourful display.

- An SoC with twice the performance.

- A camera upgrade

- Improved voice quality, noise cancellation, speaker and headphones

- Improved battery life

- 5GHz Wifi support

I wouldn't be surprised to find this iPhone has twice the RAM, either.

I'm still mostly happy with my iPhone 4.

I do a lot of web surfing and video watching on my iPhone though so I'm thinking of perhaps breaking from the iOS space for the first time and going with the Samsung S3 due mostly to the larger screen.

How does media transfer work on an Android? Is it less strict than an iPhone? As in can I just drag and drop files onto Android? Is my library tied to one computer? Etc. etc.

nothing really that impressive. Nothing about it,makes me want to pre-order the thing and rush to the cell phone store. With that being said,I'll probably get the thing about 6 months after it comes out,as I've only had the Iphone 4s for about six months.

Goddamn look at that battery life o.O

I think its the same, the processor and battery life is improved (and everything else you mentioned along with the inclusion of LTE)

^ Unless I looked at it wrong.

For those who want the comparison of the models from the official site: http://www.apple.com/iphone/compare-iphones/

I read the comparison. Like I said, nothing that makes me want to rush to the cell phone store. I'm cool with waiting six months for the phone. I do like the improved camera stuff and the improved facetime feature.

Not really that impressive. My S3 still looks much better than this thing. Oh well, since it's an iPhone it will smash all other competitors in popularity/sales anyways...

So after I get my iphone 5, I'll get a iphone 10 when it comes out in 6-8 years later.

Maybe they'll make a new device that will outdo smartphones.

They are pretty durable devices. My current iphone is 3.75 years old. Lags a bit though now. Dunno if it will last you 10 years. iPhone 5 to 10 :P.
