Forums - Sony - Starhawk is just okay

I had store credit at gamestop and I recently got starhawk. I jumped straight to the multiplayer. I was'nt disapointed, but I was'nt blown away either. Warhawk just felt more inspiring and epic 2 me. The maps in this game feel smaller and generic. So far, leveling up just gives you more clothes and skill points. In some of the skills, you have to complete a certain objective,in addition to having the necessary skill points, which is just more trouble then it's worth,in my opinion. I do like, the build the battle system. I personally think that's the best part of the game. You can, just build a structure and have whatever you wish. So yeah, the game has some good points to it,but it just feels underwhelming in my opinion. So,have you ever had a game that you liked okay, but was'nt blown away bye it.

that sucks for me then lol my cousin traveled and got me the game and is coming back with it in a couple of weeks. i played the demo nothing mind blowing but it was fun enough.

I only ever played a bit of Warhawk, but Starhawk is a completely different beast. People who were hoping to play Warhawk 2 when getting SH are going to be disappointed, indeed (but then again, I would hope not too many people would expect that).

Personally, I loved it because it was different. The build & battle system just worked really, really well. I like the maps (which got even better with the Cypress DLC), I enjoyed the combat, I liked the levels of different strategies you could take to win a game mode, I like the clan features and I like the theme of the game. The single player was pants, but I can look past that for what is - for me - the best multi-player game since TF2.

The build and battle system works good enough, but sometimes it becomes just one big mess,as people just build, just for the sake of building. Is a dozen turrents necessary around the home base? You don't even have to build anything,as you can just use other people's build's. compared to warhawk, the maps just seem smaller and less epic. I do love the warhawk and sidewider, messing with them is great fun. I don't know,I don't hate them game,as I've been playing the multiplayer some,I just feel underwhelmed and slightly disappointed bye it.

@ Bold, yep, I can completely understand that.  I can't count the amount of times I've needed an outpost while attacking and haven't been able to build because of the building cap being taken up in the home base.  But you know, I just figure that's a feature of online games these days.  Give players features, you give them the ability to use those features to be a dick.  I find most of the community is pretty useful and knows how to build/how to support (and I don't play with a mic, so that's quite handy).

I'm sorry to hear you're disappointed by it though.  You just have to look at it as "Not Warhawk 2".  If you give it a chance as it's own game, I think you'd probably enjoy it a lot more.

just to chime in quickly, this has quickly become my top 3 multiplayer games of all time. It's right up there with left for dead and starcraft. it definately has it's flaws, but i think the build and battle becomes such a great glue for shooter and strategy. In my opinion it's one of the most innovative (i said one of, not THE) games of the last 10 years. the perk system seems shallow especially since you can have only one, but it's meant to make you work together as a team. a good example is squad leader(?) and bruiser. squad leader allows your team mates to spawn around you and bruiser lets your melee attack do damage to buildings and vehicles. so have p1 fly over the enemy base and p2 spawn there and start taking out enemy buildings. it goes pretty deep and if you get in with the right people it can get pretty organized. the matchmaking is by far the worst part of multiplayer. There's just been too many times when i'm in a match and 5 of my team mates leave and it's a 3 on 7 massacre. Also, if no one has a headset of any can, just like you said, things can get pretty messy. To your original question, the conduit was ok, but it wasn't what i was hoping for. Innovative controls, pretty generic everything else.

Im thinking about buying it are ther lots of people still playing it online?

I loved playing the beta, it was really good fun especially if you are working with a friend to capture the flag.

It's like if you were a single troop in an RTS with his own mind, it's really quite unique.

I have been meaning to get it for a long time but it's still fairly expensive and other games have been higher on my list.

Since the Single player mode is free for PS+ Members i will look into it shortly.

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”
