Forums - Nintendo Discussion - OMG! Overworld confirmed in New Super Mario Bros U - Forest of Illusion is back!

hmmmm.... why am I still not super stoked. somewhat stoked, but again below my wildest expectations.

Yes we all wanted something more expansive and grand a la Super Mario World, but the worlds are STILL not a suprise. They couldn't think of anything a LITTLE more different than CANDY LAND and then a REHASH of FIRE, WATER, FOREST and SKY????

that's unfortunately never ever going to change again...ever...

Cookie Dome, Cake Desert

Hmm... Cookie

Not since Chocolate Island, Donut Hills and Vanilla Plains we had so much food themed locations.

I think Nintendo must discover that damn 5th Element quickly!

We can't stand FIRE and WATER in Mario no more! It has to stop!!!

Does it have online co-op ?

Not sure if you are being sarcastic, but if you are there are a ton of creative things one can do even with those things alone.  It's no excuse to have another lava world exactly the same as all previous lava worlds and same goes for water worlds.  Look at other works of fiction (Magic the Gathering for one, star wars books, etc.) and see how they don't ALL opt for a generic version of each element.  Cake Desert sounds interesting but everything else sounds like a been there done that.

I'm willing to hold judgment on at least waiting to see what the worlds look like individually, but conceptually this sounds phoned-in ONCE AGAIN.  That being said this is of course a day-1 buy for me.  I hope they at least don't copy the map from SMW.  Fine to draw inspiration from past sources, but don't just rehash for a launch title

Like all Marios, there'll be new things and old things and level design is king.

Remember, most people that'll buy this haven't played our cherished Mario 3 or Mario World and changing much is the first step to desfigure one's franchise. Mario without a lava world or underworld for Bowser, for example... no, don't change staples.

8 new worlds... total desfiguration of the game, imo. Little smart changes with two or three major changes (Acorn fields, Cake Desert, tornado world - which isn't Sky World, etc)... right way to go.

So far this looks to be much better than NSMB 2, and there better be a new and glorious trailer on September 13th.
