People seem to forget that uncharted was bundled a few times with new PS3 consoles. And during the holidays at that I believe.  Whereas there is no telling if TLoU will be bundled.

I don't think anyone debating has forgotten that, it's just not the only reason the franchise has done as good as it has. The bundles (mainly in Uncharted 2 & 3's cases), were much more holiday items than universal, yearly bundles.

And when do consoles tend to sell the most?  During the holidays.  Therefore the bundles probably boosted the sales of Uncharted games throughout the holiday season.  I'm not saying that is the only reason why the franchise has done so well, but it did help the sales boost by a bit probably.  Considering how well the PS3 has done the past few holidays.

The first Uncharted has sold over 4m with not much bundling.

I'd argue that the original Uncharted had more bundling than both 2 & 3 (had that 80GB bundle in the States for quite a bit), but yes, much of the sales of all three titles come from indivdual buys.

Uncharted 3 is still being bundled.  Therefore that argument is crushed.  Secondly, Uncharted 2 had a big holiday 2009 bundle.  And I'm sure it was packaged a few other times.  Regardless of if you want to deny it or not, bundles are very popular.  Especially when they offer the game at no extra cost really, such as the uncharted 2 bundle.  Considering the PS3 had its first record holiday year that year I'm sure they sold quite a few uncharted bundles.

Do you think the majority of sales for UC come from bundles? I'm not saying you're saying that btw, I'm just asking.

No, that's not what I was trying to get across.  I was simply suggesting that the sale suggestions  of 4-5 million for TLoU seem pretty good.   Unless it gets a bundle or something.  Since not everyone who bought uncharted may have liked it, or wants to buy TLoU.  So you're probably going to experience some fall off.  Secondly Uncharted 3 was basically released with a bundle, which probably helped its sales on top of being the third in the series and critically acclaimed.  I think bundles at least helped Uncharted 2 gain  a decent number of sales.  Say some guy who has never touched an uncharted game bought the Uncharted 2 bundle because he wanted a PS3 for a different game anmd thought, hey a free game might as well buy it.  He finishes his Uncharted 2 play through and tells his friends who may have never bought the game how great it is, then they go out and buy a copy for themselves.  And then when Uncharted 3 comes out him and his friends all preorder or buy the game early on.  If you get what I'm trying to say.

So bundling "helped [uncharted 3's] sales", and "helped uncharted 2 gain a decent number of sales"... this doesn't seem like a big deal, doesn't seem like it had a huge impact on sales and I would argue it didn't mainly based on the fact that the series has great legs and is a system seller.

So what's all this bundling talk about? Why is it such a focus of your discussion with whoever? I haven't been following the discussion in the topic cause it's just been going on for so long.

Well, someone somewhere mentioned a prediction of how much this game will sell.  Also bundles can and do make a big impact on games sold.  Look at past Nintendo franchises, and heck even other console manafacturers that bundled games with their console.  So say they don't is a bold and somewhat absurd assumption.  Also look at the Doom franchise.  It started as shareware and through word of mouth became insanely popular.

You know what, I think you're looking at bundling wrong. With the exception of mini-game collections like wii sports or whatever comes with move and kinect, it's the games in the bundle that sell the bundle. If that person already owned the console, he'd most likely be getting that game. So bundles make a big impact on systems sold rather than games sold. It's not like loads of people just happened to buy a PS3 that came with Uncharted, other bundles are always available as are vanilla systems. Why do you think sales got so high when UC2/3 released? Because people were buying PS3's largely for that game. The people who bought the system for that game would of got that game had they already had the system, or in the future when they eventually bought the system. The game was gonna sell roughly that much anyway.

You can't say that.  Also, I'd understand that the game would sell the bundle of the game was already a few generations old, but uncharted came out this generation.  The only argument that can be made was Uncharted 2 was bundled with a slim PS3.  So someone looking to upgrade their PS3 would probably be interested in that bundle for Uncharted, but Uncharted wasn't the entire reason they bought that bundle.  Anyone who has played completely through Uncharted 2 probably already had a working PS3 when 3 came out.  So I can't see many people buying the uncharted 3 bundle just for uncharted.  When Mario bros first was bundled with the NES, it hadn't been on a console previously...  Thanks to Nintnedo bundling it with the NES, the original Mario bros game on the arcade wasn't all that popular so you can't say mario was already widely known.  Nintendo bundling Super Mario bros with the NES is what made Mario hit mass popularity.  Which is why Non bundled mario games can sell into the 10-20m now without needing a bundle.  If it wasn't for  Nintendo doing that bundle mario would of still been popular most likely, but who knows if it would be nearly as popular as it is now.  Bundles do help.

I must agree to errorpwns Bundles do help a game to get popular ( or a at least get a little popular)and also Bundles do help to sell a system.

Remeber games like Forza 3, Halo 3, Mario Kart, Super Mario Bros one of the reasons why they got so big are bundling.
Remember Resistance 1 it sold over 3 million because of bundling. With each installment they have sold less.
Why does that not happened for Uncharted. Because its a quality game with good reviews.

So we can surly say that uncharted got so big because of

Bundling, good reviews, good word out of mouth, price cuts, good advertising, the casual appeal it had ( most of the people knwo who Indiana Jones is and Uncharted are often compared to Indiana Jones,)

Thats all factors which make Uncharted so big. To say only bundling make Uncharted so big is as ridiculus than saying bundling do nothing for Uncharted.

Can we derail the thread any more or can we get back to how awsome The Last of Us is?

because it is and no amount of extensive nitpicking will change that.

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

Agreed. I'll get the ball rollin':

The people making it all happen! :)

:O Is that young guy playing and voicing Joel?

Yup, that is Troy Baker. He is just as big as Nolan North.
