You know what, I think you're looking at bundling wrong. With the exception of mini-game collections like wii sports or whatever comes with move and kinect, it's the games in the bundle that sell the bundle. If that person already owned the console, he'd most likely be getting that game. So bundles make a big impact on systems sold rather than games sold. It's not like loads of people just happened to buy a PS3 that came with Uncharted, other bundles are always available as are vanilla systems. Why do you think sales got so high when UC2/3 released? Because people were buying PS3's largely for that game. The people who bought the system for that game would of got that game had they already had the system, or in the future when they eventually bought the system. The game was gonna sell roughly that much anyway. |
You can't say that. Also, I'd understand that the game would sell the bundle of the game was already a few generations old, but uncharted came out this generation. The only argument that can be made was Uncharted 2 was bundled with a slim PS3. So someone looking to upgrade their PS3 would probably be interested in that bundle for Uncharted, but Uncharted wasn't the entire reason they bought that bundle. Anyone who has played completely through Uncharted 2 probably already had a working PS3 when 3 came out. So I can't see many people buying the uncharted 3 bundle just for uncharted. When Mario bros first was bundled with the NES, it hadn't been on a console previously... Thanks to Nintnedo bundling it with the NES, the original Mario bros game on the arcade wasn't all that popular so you can't say mario was already widely known. Nintendo bundling Super Mario bros with the NES is what made Mario hit mass popularity. Which is why Non bundled mario games can sell into the 10-20m now without needing a bundle. If it wasn't for Nintendo doing that bundle mario would of still been popular most likely, but who knows if it would be nearly as popular as it is now. Bundles do help.
