I suppose it comes down to how you define someone as being a "threat" to the site.

While zero999 could be an incredible pain in the butt with his one-sidedness and "brick wall" attitude, on occasion he did behave himself and was capable of having a good discussion with people despite the constant attacks on him from other users. The downside of zero999 was the bad attitude and stubborn personality that caused so many arguments with people who could be just as stubborn as himself, which ended up leading to him insulting people. I didnt think he was ever going to really change, but we had to give him the chance because what he was doing, while it was breaking the ruleset, wasnt really a "threat" to the site. No more than STAGE trolling Microsoft or toastboy trolling Nintendo, or even you calling someone an idiot.

We do indeed have the right to permaban anyone whenever we decide, but I think that we have to be fair by it and more importantly if the question came up, we would have to agree on it as a group. All comes down to being fair and giving people the chance to change how they behave. Like I said though, *I* personally would have got rid of him at the start of the year when he was banned for 20 days. He had 9(!) bans for flaming and trolling in the space of 6 Months. Since then he kept his profile rather low though and he had a couple of smaller offences between his 20 day and 30 day bans, and the time between them was over 4 Months. He was showing improvement, albeit slowly. That fell apart recently though.

Do you guys ever talk to problematic users beyond the short texts in official moderations? Like, do you ever tell someone something along the lines of: "Look, this and that trait in your behavior isn't good for anyone; not for discussions, not for other users, not even for yourself."

On that note, do you have something to tell me, since you lumped me together with the likes of Zero999, S.T.A.G.E. and toastboy?

For myself, my warnings are usually more verbose and "rehabilitative" than my bans. Some people just don't know better, due to being new to the site and just not knowing where the line is here, compared perhaps to other communities.

I also usually reply to people who question my moderations via PM, unless it just looks like a big steaming complaint in my inbox.

its just fun noticing a whole clan got riled up because of his thread

A whole clan? You're never going to quit with this generalizing attitude are you?

If multiple who are often the same people respond in the same way, how am I generalising?

Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

Zero was a very, very, very bad member. Justice is finally done by whomever forced kahn to take judgement. i congratulate that man.

You're welcome. =P

I dont think you guys should let people post insults and celebrations on permabanned members walls... It just creates a new alt nuisance to deal with and honestly it is pretty mean...

Oh yes, it is mean... But there's a good reason some of those users got permabanned. And in the end, they get what they fished for.

Yeah, a permaban.  Gloating is uneccessary and as we can clearly see with zero, ends up causing issues with the user getting so mad that they keep coming back to make a nuisance of themselves with various alt accounts.

If you really need to gloat, Then it is better to do it on your own wall.  Let the dead rest in peace man!

You're very naive if you think Zero999 created these account just because some users insulted him on his wall.

that being said I have gotten people banned for that gloating

It's one thing to do it when they've been banned. It's an other to do it when they've been perma banned. Thanks.

Agreed; but not letting people say anything when the member is permabanned is something viewed a little more kindly than if it's just another user on a shorter ban.

Still at some point there's gotta be a line drawn for what is too far; I think we've gone too close to it with Zero.
