Forums - Nintendo - Is Mario Kart more relevant than Uncharted in America?

Or alternatively, neither is as relevant as Angry Birds.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

Alternate account detector activated.

Your detector is broken, because he isn't an alternate account. I just checked.

He's probably an experienced account creator who uses proxy servers to deceive the VGC police department.

Mario Kart is one of the biggest video game series in the country. You can't say that about Uncharted.

Furthermore, Mario Kart 7 is still selling and will continue to move a ton of copies throughout the life of the 3DS.

a better game? seriously?

I would say that is open to debate, but Mario Kart (like most games that have Mario in the title) are generally better games than the vast majority of "hardcore" titles; but the hardcore titles are far better interactive storytelling experiences.

not really,  mario kart certainly isnt of higher quality than uncharted or games like red dead redemption. the only mario games that you can use to argue that are the 3D mario games because they keep proving them selfs as extremely high quality games. but mario kart certainly isnt better than most hardcore games. its freaking  fun as hell!! its extremely popular but it isnt better

Why?

It's subjective people.

it is subjective true, its very hard to compare to genre against each other and even harder when they are a karting game and an action adventure. but going by meta score uncharted is the clear winner without a doubt. on what basis would anyone call mario kart a better game than uncharted?

It just has a broader appeal, anyone can play it and pick it up. Uncharted is more of a mature, better quality game but just has a smaller audience.

I think its unfair to put UC up against a beast like MK...

A, these two games have nothing at all to do with each other, and their comparison is pointless.

B, a game's "relevance" is not determined by its sales.

It is correct that Mario Kart 7 has sold more units in the past year than Uncharted 3. That is the only factual information anyone will find in this thread.

In the holiday season of 2011 Mario Kart 7 was the 3DS's biggest exclusive, the same goes for Uncharted 3 on the PS3. That's what these two games have in common and what everyone is missing.

The thread could have been more to the point though and simply be called "Nintendo > Sony".
