Forums - Nintendo - F1 2012 Skipping Wii U In Favour Of Xbox 360 And PlayStation 3 Versions

Codemasters has confirmed that they are planning to skip a Wii U version of F1 2012 so that the development team can concentrate on delivering the best version possible of the game on the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3. Codemasters hasn’t ruled out the possibility of using its external Brighton-based studio to develop a Wii U version of F1 in the future.

But external developer could head up work on Vita/Wii U versions in the future, Codemasters says.

F1 2012 will not release on PlayStation Vita or Wii U due to the developer's "tight deadline", and to ensure that Codemasters can continue to "keep maintaining the quality" of the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions.

"We looked at whether or not we could justify putting [F1 2012] on [PlayStation Vita] as well and at the time we said no," F1 2012's creative director Steve Hood told VideoGamer.com.

"The internal Birmingham team is doing the 360/PS3 versions and that stretches us, to be honest. Year-after-year we've got that tight deadline of trying to get the game out, and so we can't take on another one internally if we want to keep maintaining the quality or push for [F1] to be ever-improving."

Hood revealed that Codemasters could make use of an external Brighton-based studio to develop a PlayStation Vita or Wii U version of F1 in the future, however.

"We work with a team in Brighton who do a lot of the PC work and work on some of the console elements, so we're trying to expand that team," he continued.

"So as we're doing that, I suspect that brings the likelihood of doing Vita or Wii U versions back onto the table as a discussion because you've got scope to deal with it. Whereas I think a lot of developers are often trying to cover every single format known to man without really increasing their teams sufficiently."

Codemasters' decision to skip PlayStation Vita may surprise some F1 fans.

F1 2011 released on PlayStation Vita alongside the handheld earlier this year. Development of the game was outsourced to UK studio Sumo Digital.

Just like with Madden and Assassin's Creed 3. Its clear that dev's are paying favor to the Sony/Microsoft userbase.

NIntendo should put focus on good devs and stop worrying about trying to catch the attention of devs who bear no good intentions towards them or their userbase. It was never about power or any of those other excuses devs gave for not bringing good games to the Wii. They may be "amonsts" the reasons but definitely not the major one.

2K is putting NBA 2K13 on Wii U. I'm not the biggest NBA fan anymore but I was thinking about maybe getting it. I haven't bought a sports game since NBA 2K2, NFL 2K3, and NHL 2K3. I am hoping that 2K gets the rights to the NFL again next year. I would buy their NFL game (went with a general sports theme since you mentioned Madden).

I'm also see the direct correlations made with Vita popping up more often.

I have this feeling that a lot of devs are going to make Vita the core platform then just port the games to the Wii U like what happened with PSP and PS2 level games on the Wii.

Too bad for all the 3 people whom care.

C.A.R.S. will be there and won't be just a dirty F1 simulator, it will have all sorts of cars and tracks. It is the closest youo can get to Gran Turismo on the Wii U. This of course, if you care about realistic racing simulators.

I do care, but only for Gran Turismo of Forza, and since those are not available on a Nintendo platform I am currently disconected from the racing genre.
