Forums - Nintendo - Snob Neo Nintendo Graphics Enthusiast: Know you meme :S

Is this crazy or am I making a hint of sense?

So I was in a thread today talking about a typical gen7 core game being ported on the WiiU, and I couldn't believe the new term someone came up with.

"Snob neo Nintendo graphics enthusiast"

Now I wasn't sure if he was being serious or facetious, but the term really got to me.

It's the funniest thing to think about, when Nintendo fans have been through the gen7 console wars, before that they went through the gen4 console wars: SNES vs Genesis. Lately d21 reposted AVGN's take on the era, and it was a sweet return to nostalgic past.

There are people in this industry that believe that Sony and Microsoft are where graphical capabilities started, where people started caring about graphics. Already starting on a wrong premise, they now go the extra mile in silliness to call Nintendo fans who care about graphics "Neo Nintendo graphics enthusiasts", as if it was a new thing to a Nintendo fan to be interested in good graphics.

I just couldn't believe it.

To think back at the times where so many fans were going apeshit on Super Mario Bros. 3, they couldn't wait to get their hands on this huge new game with AWESOME graphics. When the Super NES came, how many people were waiting for the next Legend of Zelda, with the crazy new graphics that we saw in the Nintendo Power poster that came with our Super Nintendo? And now you're telling me that Nintendo fans that care about graphics are "Neo Nintendo graphics enthusiasts".

A little blast from the past before I'm done.

Welcome back. I know there were Nintendo experiences which thrived to give you the most excellent graphics of the day, and there is no reason that that would change.

When it comes to Nintendo hate, people have gone a little bit too far and at this point, they just appear crazy.

Some reason I was thinking Neo Geo (when entering this thread) which makes the case that the most powerful system never wins a generation.  Some people like to ignore the Neo Geo during the 16 bit era but the fact is it is included in that generation.

Nintendo ususally releases pretty powerful home systems.  Their hand helds usually are the least powerful.  Nintendo takes a lot of flak for releasing an underpowered Wii yet when they released the GCN (which was more powerful than the PS2) very few people gave a shit.

Those people who called us "Neo Nintendo graphics enthusiasts" are probably kids who don't know anything outside of this gen

Nintendo and PC gamer

To be fair, this gen has gone on SO MUCH LONGER than any previous gen (by an entire 365 days I believe!) that us people who remember things from before this gen started are like relics in the gaming industry.

It seems to me that the real issue here is human memory. Those who act like this gen is representative of the history of video games (such as by giving the term "neo nintendo graphics enthusiast") are basically telling us they have terrible memories.

If I was a doctor who worked in the field of memory science, I would have just found a billion-dollar segment to offer my services to.

Graphics started with the HD twins, it seems. Wonder if one day we'll be "Snob neo Nintendo gameplay enthusiast" also.

Proud to be the first cool Nintendo fan ever

What's with the Neo part?

Seems like that new term is just a bunch of jumbled words with Nintendo thrown in it so it would make "sense". (Even though it doesn't really...)

That`s a funny term! :D

If i recall correctly, i think i only started caring about graphics when the N64 came out and even then it really wasn`t that big of a deal.
I remember reading some comments on magazines of how great "it" looked, but to me it was considering within the game itself and how great it looked. Never compared the graphics of Mario 64 to OOT, just praised how the game actually was.

It goes to show how games - and the supposed success - depends on how good a game looks or how powerful the console is.
I`d rather see people talk more about how their consoles have great games, period.

What DelioPT said is also true for me. Back during the 16bit days, I still rather wanted the NES games of SMB1.2.3 instead of the remakes...

Also thought about the NEO GEO when coming in this thread! lol

And proud member of the Mega Mario Movement!

Noobs are noobs

I started caring about graphics in the PS1 days but even then me and my friend talked about how much time it would take devs to make games if they would look better :P
