Forums - Nintendo - Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2 Puts Wii U and PS Vita In Its Sights

There have been hints that a title on the Wii U would make use of CryEngine 3, but nobody was really sure which title that would be.

Now, we may finally have an answer… as well as another FPS coming to the Vita.

The ESRB has updated its page on Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2 to include the Wii U and the Vita as release platforms.

This is intriguing in two ways. First of all, it explains the game's ongoing delays; porting a game to more platforms is going to add development time, especially for quality assurance. Secondly, it explains which CryEngine 3 game would be coming to the Wii U. Although it certainly leaves the door open for other projects.

Our Take: Personally, we find this game arriving on the Vita to be a bit more relevant than the Wii U arrival. It's fairly clear the Wii U can handle pretty much any current-gen game coming out; it doesn't make sense for publishers to leave money on the table.

The Vita port, though, is what we think is the real story. As we've noted before, the Vita has a dearth of first-person shooters that Sony is only now acting to redress. As far as we can tell, this is the first game for the Vita to use CryEngine 3, although we know it can run on mobile platforms.

If this port goes smoothly, it may pave the way for more console games to be ported to the Vita. We'll be looking with interest to see how it compares to the other versions of the game.

If this isn't fanboy journalism at its finest I don't know what is.

I wouldn't say so. They're taking it for granted that third parties are going to release games on Wii U. Fanboy journalism would have been more on the lines of "it will be odd to see such a violent game on a Nintendo platform" or something.

To say it is odd to see such a game on a Nintendo platform would be fairly accurate. I wouldn't consider it such a case. That would just be  stating a fact that such things are rare.

This article is intentionally dismissing the Wii U version of the game in favor of the Vita for no substanstial reason, and stating that its their "their take". No aspect of that can be interpreted as unbiased.

Actually, I'd say quite the opposite, mostly due to this line:

"It's fairly clear the Wii U can handle pretty much any current-gen game coming out; it doesn't make sense for publishers to leave money on the table."

It shouldn't be news that a PS360 game is coming to the Wii-U, because they should be coming anyway - like he mentions, the system can more than handle it and Nintendo have made a conscious effort to attract these types of games.  The more articles which make a big fuss about multi-plat games coming to the Wii-U, the more emphasis is put that there's a distinction between it and the HD twins.

And of course, there is a distinction, but in an ideal world it should just start being assumed that HD games are coming straight to the Wii-U.

And in relation to the Vita part, excellent. An FPS for the system which isn't developed by Nihilistic.

If there's gyro control for sniping like in Uncharted Golden Abyss, then this game would be fucking awesome on the vita. fingers crossed

and also this news is in the wrong section, should be in gaming discussions
