It's pretty much exactly like this one only with Sega's Origin system (3rd in series after the SegaCD became a runaway success) competing against the Phillips Gameplayer (2nd iteration) and the Atari 2006. Shigeru Miyamoto never went into the video game industry and in fact became a professional painter. The Nintendo Kid was briefly the Sega kid.
It's an okay place and I'd much rather have a Sega Origin than a 360 (this dimension), but a universe without Nintendo just doesn't feel like home.
Nintendo rebuilt the video game market after the collapse in the early 80's. There might not even be video game consoles today if it weren't for Nintendo.

There would be a few less senior citizens flailing their arms around like autistic children, that's for sure.

There would be something, but the console market would probably be much smaller, and PC gaming bigger. Things would be so different that it's impossible to know. =/
I really don't know ...
Nintendo created the business model which is used by all console manufacturers today, and only their clever approach towards retailers got the NES into retail outlets after the industry crash of the 1980s. Without Nintendo I don't think console gaming would have caught on when it did ...
As a result of this PC gaming would probably be far more popular
It would taste like chicken.
From 0 to KICKASS in .stupid seconds.
That would not be a world I would want to live in. I imagine the living would envy the dead.

Agreed. The entire market would have shifted toward PCs and gamepads would be the most common imput device for PC games.
Also, Microsoft would be the sole game "console" manufacturer (Windows) and its own largest developer.

If you are interested in trying Ubuntu or Linux in general, PM me and I will answer your questions and help you install it if you wish.
Mind you, Nintendo wasn't the only player at the time. Sega and Atari were competing for 2nd place, so if Nintendo had never been around, it's possible Sega or Atari might of become the primary leader of the industry. Now, if Atari, Sega and Nintendo didn't exist, I'd agree that the PC gaming market would of expanded un-impeded, and would likely have total dominance at this point.
