Forums - Nintendo - Can Nintendo hold the Wii By them selves?

Think about this.

Imagine it happened. Imagine that Nintendo did have to almost single-handedly support the Wii with its games. This would cement the image that "Only Nintendo games sell on Nintendo consoles." Do you understand how painful that stigma would be not only this generation but in the following ones? Even with the highest selling console of the bunch, 3rd parties choosing not to support a Nintendo console means that they wouldn't even support it at its best.

This is all hypothetical, but this stigma is a very real possibility that Nintendo very much needs to avoid.

But... the support is going to eventually follow much like it did with the DS. The struggle is centered around Japan where home console gaming has been contracting and the third party developers there are struggling in the home market. I'm sure the western developers are going to figure out how to put one and one together and come out with "ii" soon.

Logically support should follow sales however sales need to follow support as well.

As long as they could produce games like Wii sports Wii plat and Wii fit, then yes

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

But as i said earlier, wasn't it Nintendo who pioneered the DS's success the first 2 years of its life? look at the DS now. It seems the Wii seems to be following the DS's success, wii sports is the Nintendogs for the Wii, wii fit is the Brain age of the Wii.

No, Big Brain Academy is

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

Well, total Wii software is comfortably outselling PS3 and X360. People need to be precise. 3rd party CASUAL games ARE selling. On GC this wasn't true. So yes, I think Nintendo software + 3rd party casual+ profitable hardware is enough. Maybe not PS2 level success but who realistically expected that?

Oh they can easily surpass PS2 level success at their current rate

If Nintendo and 3rd parties can come up with more casual games I think the Wii can last for very long time because those game are not about graphic. I think it will reach 100m but not sure if it will ever catch up to the PS2 though.

In my opinion Nintendo would be able to do be successful with little support. I say this because Nintendo games are virtually the reason why people purchase their hardware. Also Nintendo titles are consistent which would maintain their hardware sales. But its always better to have third party support so that can expand their user base and keep good relationships with the companies just in case they ever need them (Gamecube era). But if Nintendo really wanted to they would be able to accomplish major success on there own, however hardware sales would be slightly lower but still profitable.

People dont say lets buy a Wii for Sonic, or Raymen but instead buy the hardware for Wii Play, Mario, Zelda.

Nintendo could quite literally sell this console with absolutely no games of quality.
No, that was Sony and the PS3.  Don't you remember?

My advice to fanboys: Brag about stuff that's true, not about stuff that's false. Predict stuff that's likely, not stuff that's unlikely. You will be happier, and we will be happier.

I guess they could easily buy studios which specialize in games they need to get more audience.

I guess that they could even demand certain level of quality from 3rd parties games, so there would be less shovelware on wii, and more effort from 3rd parties.
