Forums - Gaming - Sony will be unfairly called copycat again when PS4 arrives

Sony hurt your feelings.

Sony only hurt the feelings of some of its own fans by doing that, because it turned many into self-appointed priests of gaming. Thankfully, they are now eating a good dose of humble pie now that the Vita is struggling and the Playstation 3 failed to be a viable profit source.

Speaking of consoles with motion controls, were you referring to the XaviXPORT?

Yes, they did copy them, are you happy? At least I am smart enough to admit it. However, there were motion sensing technologies before even that like the U-Force.

For every claim, it's important to indicate what Nintendo copied. They didn't copy Gyro because that was in Kirby's tilt n tumble in 2000. So what exactly did Nintendo copy.

Well it appears they copied the integration of motion controls into a home console controller. Did they copy that directly from the XaviXPORT, what about the U-Force on the NES? So what of the XaviXPORT did Nintendo copy specifically, was it the form of the controller, the type of technology (gyro), the marketing and main applications (sports, casual gaming)?

The only way we can make headway is by defining the terms.

It's not unfair when it's the truth.. Are you honestly going to tell me that the Move is NOT a carbon copy of the Wiimote, simply because it has a blue glowing light bulb at the end of it? I mean christ, does it need to be the exact shape and color of the Wiimote for you to recognize this?

I am 100% positive Sony will have a tablet controller for their PS4, judging from their track record.

Move was clearly inspired by the success of the wiimote but it's obviously not a carbon copy as it's different tech.

You've acted all outraged over this issue since Move was announced. Like most nintendo fans you probably didn't know about Xavix which uses the same tech as the wii and was released 2 years earlier.

Now that you know you can act all outraged with nintendo as well.

You don't understand. If Sony's PR people didn't criticise the progression of their competitors before changing their minds and jumping on the bandwagon, they wouldn't be such an easy target. Their PR people are the worst fanboys around, and unfortunately their ways rub off on certain customers.

Everybody copies, it's just that Sony are dicks about it.

"Everybody copies"

Correct. In probably every industry on this planet. This is the only one i know of where people whine about it.

"it's just that Sony are dicks about it"

Probably but that's not the cause of the whining. I don't believe that for a second. The problem is ignorant nintendo fans who don't know that just about everything nintendo has ever done has been borrowed from somewhere else. They think nintendo is above all that. Wrong.

Only a select few believe that - probably a comparable proportion of terrible fanboys as you would expect to see anywhere. Why let them upset you?

This thread was created by a user known for satirical content, and I think you may be taking it a bit too seriously.

@Gnac

Knock it off with the patronizing bullshit. I'm not any more serious than anyone i'm responding to including you.

"only a select few believe that"

I guess the rest just like to feign ignorance then.

Can't believe how many replies this thread has... or the fact that a mod showed up last page and told someone not to derail it.

Just wonderful.

Unbelievable. A joke thread turned into a reason for users to flame each others consoles.

I'm sorry Galaki, but I'm going to lock your thread because otherwise several people will eventually have to be banned.

Really? So you're saying that a plastic tennis racket and bowling ball motion controllers designed for two games is similar to the Wiimote in the same way the Move is similar to the Wiimote? THAT plastic sports console, with a tennis racket and bowling ball as controllers, complete with two games, is similar to the Wiimote.. in the same way THESE

...are similar? Give me a break

Look, I realize that there have been motion controls in some form before Wii, I think that's obvious.. All I'm saying is the precise design and the philosophy behind it was clearly emulated by Sony. it is painfully obvious what Sony was going for and what they had in mind when they designed the Move controller.  They are remarkably similar in that they are both 3D motion sensing remote-like controllers along with a nunchuck attachment with a traditonal joystick that are used universally for their respective consoles.. Not to mention the games that are designed primarily around these controllers are also very similar, ie Wii Sports/Wii Champions. Is what I say not the truth?

I'm not trying to act like Nintendo is some brilliant inventor of technolgies and new ideas here, clearly they've recycled, remolded, and retooled concepts and technologies already in existance. But what I am simply saying is Sony essentially took these EXACT concepts and designs and put them into their new controllers in an attempt to capture some of the lightning in a bottle Nintendo managed to capture.
