And if they improved battery, it would do even better. 5 hours of battery is crazy, it's like Lynx and Game Gear level.

I LOVE ICELAND!

3DS will take over the world when they produce the next Pokemon/NintenDogs/ basically killer ap.

Wii-U is coming and will take over the market.

I will predict

3ds: 27 million by the end of the year at least.

Wii-U Spring march 25: 6-8 million.

Japan market share 75-80 percent.

Usa: 50-55 percent

Europe: 52 Percent.

Nintendo is working hard at work for games in 2013 that's when retro will show there game on nintendo direct because e3 is irrelevant.

Get on the hype train or your body will not be ready.

"Excuse me sir, I see you have a weapon. Why don't you put it down and let's settle this like gentlemen"  ~ max

I'm pretty sure that "18 months to 10 mil worldwide" statistic for DS is very wrong. For starters, the Chartz have DS selling over 10 mil in 2005 alone, the end of which was about 14 months after launch.

Anyway, handheld gaming isn't dead, but it's taking a beating. 3DS is persevering. Vita is not.

Yeah not sure where that came from... maybe a mistype.

By the 17th month from release (though Nintendo may count it as the 18th as they work in quarters... so releasing in November is the same as releasing in October) they had shipped 17.73 million. The nearest figure I can come up with is at that same time (end of March 2006) they had shipped almost 10 million in overseas territories (ie not Japan)

Too true. My smartphone is game free!

Simply put, smartphones are Sony's problem, but not Nintendo's.

Yeah that is what I thought...but still affect 3DS sales though.

Imo, the 3DS userbase is getting a bit different from DS userbase. The handled market is indeed shrinking, since parents, in these times re not willing to buy a person dedicted console for their childrens. On the other end the Vita is just to damn expansive and not that much appealing to most consumers.
So in the end I think 3DS has an older userbase, has kept a portion of ex NDS users while stealing some market shares to ex PSP users.
