Forums - Gaming - Why I've Gone Off Gaming

I don't think I've played a video game in 4 or 5 months, and I don't see myself playing them again for quite some time (I'm moving to Hong Kong tomorrow, for a year, so I'll definitely be too busy).

But, really, I see gaming as a (sigh) waste of time. For the record, I watch maybe 2 or 3 movies a year, and watch very little TV. I dislike saying that, because I do remember really enjoying games when I used to play them... but if I switch on a console, or something, now, I just think to myself "There's a million and one things I could be doing, and I've chosen this".

I never found games particularly relaxing, either. I found them fun, exciting, frustrating, and adrenaline boosting, but these things are the opposite to relaxation. Although I must admit, there was something particularly soothing about just riding around the planes in Red Dead Redemption.

Anyway, that's my experience. Anybody else found themselves going off video games? For similar reasons? I don't know if it's just a part of "growing up", or whether I'm just too obsessed with "knowledge" (I can't even read fiction, anymore, I see that as a waste of time... and that includes the "News" )

You're probably one of those nerds that spends all day reading articles about economics or something.

It's okay. I do it to.

You've grown up it seems, I can feel myself doing it as well but I aim to fight it for as long as possible.

PS One/2/p/3slim/Vita owner. I survived the Apocalyps3/Collaps3 and all I got was this lousy signature.

This.

Eh doesnt have anything to do with growing up honestly, more jus changing tastes I woukd guess.

Im 24, have a crazy busy job and life and still find time to play games every week. And I dont see that changing either

I guess changing tastes does hold more water than growing up.

Happened to me basically towards the end of college. Less friends to play with and other goals which are way more important. But I'll always end up playing maybe 2, possibly 3 games a year at the least. Right now, for example, I've been unemployed for a while and I find myself feeling guilty about the thought of getting into a game.

That being said Dance Dance Revolution for Wii is a regular part of my weekly exercising, doing pushups and pull-ups in between several rounds of songs. But this really doesn't count as gaming in my mind.

Still, I will always be interested in the industry at the very least.

Reported.

it's not because you're growing up.  if you were growing up you would realize that you're never going to make a difference in this world and your quest for knowledge is a waste of time.  best you can do is enjoy the ride.

I haven't games on my PS3 for months now as it is mainly used for Netflix right now. Probably won't touch it again until either PSASBR or late January with NiNo Kuni.

I blame mobile gaming. Nobody to say "Hey, I want to use the TV now." I just get left alone to enjoy my gaming.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)
