Forums - General - Tony Scott (Director Of Top Gun, Beverly Hill Cops 2, Man On Fire) Suicides **UPDATE** Had terminal brain cancer

Director Ridley Scott was seen boarding a plane from London to Los Angeles after receiving the news his younger brother, Tony Scott, director of such Hollywood hits as "Top Gun," "Days of Thunder" and "Beverly Hills Cop II," had died Sunday after jumping from a Los Angeles County bridge.

The 68-year-old Scott's death was being investigated as a suicide as a report emerged on Monday that he may have been battling terminal brain cancer.

Ed Winter, the assistant chief coroner for Los Angeles County told the Daily News a brain issue could be determined by the autopsy, schedule for Monday morning.

Several people called 911 around 12:35 p.m. to report that someone had jumped from the Vincent Thomas Bridge spanning San Pedro and Terminal Island in Los Angeles Harbor, according to Los Angeles police Lt. Tim Nordquist.

Pretty shocking news....I guess since he had an inoperable tumor in his brain which he was told would ultimately lead to death he felt there was no way out.

RIP to him.

Hope Ridley Scott & his family gets through this okay. Even Denzel Washington who he used to collaborate with a lot.

Last we heard he was thinking about making Top Gun 2 with Tom Cruise...

His last movie was Unstoppable. It was a great movie. Too bad he made a lot movie with Denzel Washington.

Heard about this yesterday pretty sad. Turns out he had terminal brain cancer. Man on Fire is my favorite movie he directed and one of my favorite movies of the past decade.

And he produced the amazing The Pillars of the Earth mini-series and the upcoming World Without End mini-series :(

Of course I do, he is one of the best actors ever. What I meant is Denzel will get less roles from now

Ah, I see.  I like the two of them teamed up as well.

I hated his movies - except True Romance, which was written by Tarantino and was good despite Tony Scott not because of him.

The inferior brother. He was more successful than he deserved imo, though that's not unusual in modern Hollywood.

I must admit: Good departure for a Hollywood action director. RIP.
