guys, guys we need to wait at least two years before we decide if it is dying or not besides CoD will save it this holiday!

Huh??? How so? Vita sales are now 2.7 million. Dreamcast topped out at 2.25 million in Japan.

The platform total's page on VGC is wrong for some reason... not sure how much more DC may have sold in Japan but the console shipped 10.6 million in total (2.4m more than VGC world total). Similarly PS1 only shipped 102.49 million, yet on that page it is at 104.25 million, and the Sega Saturn shipped 9.5 million (i think, as I remember something about 13 million as well, but that might just be Sega Master System), not 8.82 million.

Yeah, when numbers are adjusted, things will get ugly. it took the Vita a very long time for its worlwide sales to beat the Japanese sales of a console that was considered a faliure... What would be more interesting though is comparing Vita and DC in Japan only. If I'm not mistaken, it's tracking slightly behind (800k-ish for Vita, 900k-ish for DC)

Yeah, that's true. Some VGC numbers for older console are off (Games as well), but not for Japan. Tracking sales in Japan is much more accurate than other regions considering we have both Famitsu and Media Create. VGC numbers should be accurate for Japan. Those missing sales should be from the other markets (mostly from developing countries).
This holiday will prove if the Vita is will rise or sink.
I hope its the former, Nintendo needs the competation.
Plus if the Vita does fall, then the Smartphones/Tablet > Dedicated Handheld gaming movement will grow to annoying levels.
And I'm sure no one wants to has those clutter up our news.

Why exactly does Nintendo need competition? The GameBoy Advance essentially had a market to itself, and still had great 1st and 3rd party offerings.
