Forums - Sony Discussion - Why Do U Hate PS3 (or Sony)??

They abandoned all their good IP's for a few shallow new ones. And their marketing has gotten brutal.

Games can and should tell stories and share ideas through their mechanics. This is the intrinsic element of the medium and this is how experiences should be crafted in video games. No company does this as well as Nintendo and their echoes from the past.

I really love Sony. Biggest complaint I have about them though, marketing. I'm tired of people who aren't even aware of certain Sony exclusives. Really? you've never heard of Uncharted? AdhguaughughUIE~!

I feel a lot of Sonys exclusives deserve more sales and recognition than they get :/

I hate Sony because they seem incapable of marketing/selling their products. Because I love their products!! (Gaming related ones).

No troll is too much for me to handle. I rehabilitate trolls, I train people. I am the Troll Whisperer.

As a corporation, they became a monopoly and choked the life out of the competition, preventing them from growing and coming into their own. I am offcourse referring to the PS2, since Gamecube and Xbox were tragically cut short of their potential. This gen is far better because EVERYONE has a fair chunk of marketshare. There is balance.

On another note, I dislike Sony for breeding the worst fan group to grace the internet......talking with a smugness (even though they are last) and putting a exaggerated emphasis on exclusives (all though sales are nothing special at all).

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

Sony gets a lot of hate for their many devices and what once used to be a premium product, has still kept the premium price while not being as premium as advertised.  Most hate as a company however, is that Sony is just way overpriced, and most people who hate on them just haven't used their products, and, "let's just jump on the hate train."

As a video game company however, Sony is much less deserving of it than any of the other current big three.  A lot of people will make excuses to throw hate out at them of the $599 PS3.  Five hundred and ninety nine dollars!  However, this hate, like mentioned above, is because you're too cheap to purchase an expensive product, but on the flipside of this, this is a well developed product that they were losing hundreds of dollars on each sold, doing nothing wrong towards the customer.  What sort of disrespect does Sony deserve on this front?

They've always seemed to maintain a certain degree of quality for their products that they publish, both first and third party.  Even with games that I'm not a fan of, Sony gives seemingly unlimited funding for their first party "owned" developers.  Certain third party developers they even help funding up to a certain point, but this is also dependent on the developer.  Sure, they could have got on the ball about pushing out first or third party exclusive content in the first couple years of the PS3, but despite that, it's a company that since the very beginning, has brought us new IPs each generation rather than milking the same old franchise for over 25 years.  A company that has stressed "Greatest Hits" as its best selling titles to give those who have yet to purchase the games a discount in the title rather than keeping it at the original MSRP for five years running, although third party publishers have the right to not include their games in this special line up.

Whether you're making the jump to the newest console right away or going to stick with the prior console a little bit longer, aside from the PSP, Sony shows that they clearly support their older, dyying console.  And no, this is not "look at the PS2 still selling."  I'm talking about big games llike God of War 2 and also Level 5 and Sony''s Rogue Galaxy, both published in 2007.  Nintendo on the other hand had loyal fans waiting a month to play an already completed Gamecube game, unless they purchased and played the Wii version.  You Zelda fans know what I'm talking about.  Oh right.  Then they moved all titles in development from the Gamecube to the Wii and completely abandoned the Gamecube as soon as possible, but they still kept selling new for a couple years after didn't they?

As for Microsoft?  I have no problem with them.  They do some things I don't like, but the company is straight forward and is interested and making a good impression of their company , unlike Nintendo which I have a huge dislike for.  I used to be a Nintendo fanboy, but their many bs tactics have pushed me away from even being a fan.  I still buy their systems because there are some good first and third party games.  Here's a few problems with Nintendo.  Just a few.

-Nintendo selling a handheld like the 3DS for $250, well knowing that this system isn't nearly worth that amount, and still selling it at that cost because they were sure, and different words used but coming across as the same meaning, "that fans would buy it regardless of price."
Nntendo will rarely, if ever, drop the price of their first party developed and released titles because they know the the games will sell at the price no matter what the quality.  "Get N or go F yourself.".
-Nintendo releasing a lot of poor quality first party titles with Nintendo or even Nintendo and Mario slapped on the cover because again, they know it will sell regardless of quality.

Again though.  These are only a few reasons I dislike Nintendo, but why are there so many loyal fans towards a company like this.  One that even is quoted on how you're nothing to them and they just wanted more money and they knew you would still pay for it.

Sony proves time and time again that they appreciate the fans that they have.  Sure they might do stuff that people don't like, such as remove backwards compatibility or the capability of using Linux, but despite being just like every other company and being in this game for the money, they make you feel like they actually care about doing good for their fans.  This is why I've been a fan of the Playstation since the PSX and they've did nothing too bad to get me to dislike them in ways that certain companies, namely Nintendo, has.

My BC PS3 died. Iff my current Slim PS3 dies, then that would be the last straw.

e=mc^2

Gaming on: PS4 Pro, Switch, SNES Mini, Wii U, PC (i5-7400, GTX 1060)

I buy a lot of Sony products. My camera is a Sony, my TV is a Sony, and obviously my Playstations are all Sony. But I'd be lying if I said the Sega fan in me didn't resent how Sony killed the Dreamcast with empty promises of the PS2. I still love my PS2 and Dreamcast, but damn do I wish people hadn't waited for the PS2 while they ignored the stellar Dreamcast. Like I said, it's not hate and it doesn't stop me from buying Sony products, but it's a wound that hasn't fully healed.

Sony needs to make more RPGs. It's the only reason I went with Playstation to begin with.

So much focus on shooters this gen. I hope they carry a new approach next gen.

This is a common criticism, but how many shooters has Sony actually developed?

Killzone, Resistance and arguably Uncharted. Everything else is part of another genre: LBP, Ratchet, inFamous, Flower, Gran Turismo, Wipeout, GoW3.

It's just the third party developers who love to make shooters, and Sony is hardly going to say no to those.

Killzone, Resistance, MAG, Socom, Uncharted. How many RPGs?

I forgot about MAG and SOCOM. But then Zipper have never really made anything other than a shooter in their lengthy existence, so expecting them to switch to RPGs would be pretty unreasonable.

It's true that Sony's RPG lineup is pretty weak, but that's not something that can be easily fixed. You need developers with some level of RPG experience to make one. Microsoft only had those exclusive JRPGs initially because:

a) The PS3 install base was miniscule, and

b) They contracted with third party developers.

And of course, there are RPGs on PS3 (Mass Effect and Skyrim right down to Final Fantasy and Tales of Vesperia), they're just not exclusive.

This was really interesting to read.  I didn't agree with everything you said, but most of it I did.  Nice post!
