There were people who didn't like it in the gamescom thread. I don't know why.

I was one of them. I really do not see what is so good about it. Graphical fidelity is crisp sure, but thats it.

It was different, fresh. Not just "graphical fidelity" but also the artstyle, music, and general feel of it. And the fact that the environment changes around you like you're on a theater stage. That sounds pretty awesome

You know what I think is really going on?

I think people are so starved for content on Vita, that they are willing to accept Puppeteer as great content. When you go without food for a long time, even a saltine looks like a gourmet meal. I understand this dilemma because I am a Wii owner. You think if I was getting Metal Gear, Resident Evil, and and Batman, I'd give a shit about Madworld?

Artstyle be damned, I want some traditional new games dammit. This game is immersive art shit isgetting too much (for me at least). Sony is veering off into TOO FAR of a creative direction. TEAM ICO stuff is cool, but this?

THIS?

OK, let me break this down:

1. This game is a PS3 exclusive, not a Vita game.

2. PS3 game

3. I don't understand what you mean by "traditional new games". You want something new that feels old? You want new iterations in old franchises or what? Yet I see you complain all the time about Vita getting too many supposed "console games/ports" (since you seem to think it's a Vita game, I'll go with that) that are, more often than not, new iterations in old franchises.

The fact that I thought it was a Vita game makes it that much more embarrassing. Maybe it would be better served on that handheld. When I saw gamescom I knew it was PS3, but it was forgettable.

When I mean traditional new games, I mean games that do not look as wonky as this. Nintendo pulled the same stunt with Flingsmash and look where that went...

Vita IS getting too many console-ish games. What sells a portable are games destined and created for the sole purpose of portable use, not something pidgeonholed onto the hardware for the sake of it.

I personally am trying to find the difference in how Sony does things and how Nintendo does things, but I cannot describe the difference. There IS A difference but I cannot put it into words. All of Nintendo's franchises have appeared in handheld and console form, some fail vice versa, but many succeed.

Zelda, Mario, Metroid, Donkey Kong, Wario - they all found an avenue on handhelds yet took nothing away from the console games. Outside of God of War and maybe Uncharted I don't see that working the same way for Sony.

Tear Away appears to be an excellent Vita game. The aesthetic is still corny in my eyes, but the innovative use of Vita controls allows it to be 'just good enough' to ignore. Basically, the art serves to get the job done and let the use of control be VERY clear and most of all, fun.

But Puppeteer? Nah, not feelin it.

I don't think I saw much innovation in gameplay for a platformer but of course they won't show much, would they? Only the scissors stuff was shown. However, I loved the hole concept of playing a puppet show. I was like, hmm, that is what's happening in the story but then the curtain would roll or a set piece would move to the sound of the crowd and I was kind of taken away from the idea that I was watching a storyline but watching a show, I liked that effect.

Now, this is a demonstration in how you can add story elements to a platformer game without making it intrusive or relying in cut-scenes, something they don't bother to do with Mario as I argued a while back in a thread. That is how you push things forward.

Nintendo is selling their IPs to Microsoft and this is true because:

I sincerely doubt that SaviorX came into the thread with the intent to start anything. He didn't like the look of it, and said so in a way that did not demean anything or attack anyone. Yukana and Pullus rebutted by attacking him directly, which was not the thing to do.

Now, unfortunately, this thread has veered towards become yet another Vita discussion, so please try to keep this about Puppeteer.

For my part, i'll say that Sony Japan continues to match their reputation for excellence. A little arty, but certainly great-looking in both aesthetics and gameplay potential.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Let me break this down for you now into parts: EDIT

What is Tearaway?

I already mentioned that was a good game, but c'mon The main guy IOTA? I was not really fond of him. I was not a fan of Kirby's Epic Yarn either. It is not easy to make a mascot, but I just really find difficulty in seeing how they will market IOTA to consumers. Luckily, the rest of the game looks so good, that none of it matters too much, and that is my point. Other titles, after seeing their gameplay, SURELY do not have the same luxury.

Mario is perfect for both consoles and handhelds yet those are not. Double standards

????? Mario games traverse so many genres that doesn't even make sense. 3D Marios aren't the only form the character has appeared in on a handheld. Sports, Karts, Mario vs Donkey Kong, NSMB etc.

Honestly, I see you here trying to turn everything that would be great to most people (Tearaway...corny art style? What the hell does that mean?) into something negative about the Vita when this game doesn't even have anything to do with it. Sony can do no right, there's always something wrong with the games. Whether it be the "corny artstyle", gameplay too similar to console games (however double standard that sounds), new games in existing franchises etc. I'll tell you why you can't find what they do differently about their handheld vs. console games: It's because they don't. Nintendo release the same goddamn games on their handhelds and consoles and yet they get a free pass.

Nintendo does not get a free pass for squat. Their console Animal Crossing was extremely lazy and their entire hardware sales momentum on the Wii side paid dearly for it. Warioware Do-It-Yourself (seriously?) was a wash too.

I would be a hypocrite if I praised Paper Mario 1 yet bashed Tear Away, but their styles are not the same. I liked the sprites in Marvel vs Capcom 2, hated the models in MvC3. I liked the less-serious styles of Jak, Batallion Wars, & Billy Hatcher, but I think Tear Away's IOTA is just weird. I look at it and think of a shredded doll, grotesque even.

Other Sony games I have never really spoken on, so I'm not sure where you are coming from on that.
