Nice graphics, current gen gameplay mechanics.

That's what I see.

what do next gen gameplay mechanics look like in a trailer?

This game was revealed back at E3. We've seen gameplay from it.

So in other words you weren't even commenting on the new trailer? Why did you even bother looking at it then, if you have already decided you don't like the gameplay?

Also why on't you make the same comment about all the Wii U games? Is it because they have current gen mechanics and graphics?

Actually, with the tablet and motion controllers, the WIi U does offer new and unique gaming (focused on the tablet here).

I actually do agree that there doesn't appear to be any new gameplay innovations. This has me thinking about the history of video games. Increasing in power from generation to generation has always made new huge gameplay improvements as well as visual. Now it feels like we've come to a point where our increase in technology isn't giving us revolutionary gameplay ideas, but just visual. Perhaps that's why Nintendo is trying to change the gameplay through their control methods instead.

Damn! My comment really upset you, huh?

The trailer actually has  a  few seconds of gameplay and yeah, it's still a very pretty game with gameplay that looks dissapointingly similar to what we've had all this gen. That's what I said, not 'the gameplay sucks', so no need to get your jimmies rustled.

And regarding the WiiU, so far I've seen many things done with the controller that aren't 'current gen gameplay mechanics.' The pre-launch graphics are still rough around the edges but I expect things to get better when it launches and as next gen goes on.

The tablet doesn't really offer much that couln't be done on a DS or tablet or even a mouse or wiimote pointer. And so far outside of Zombie U (and even Ubisoft have said that MS's Smart Glass would be able to do the same stuff on the 360) I haven't seen any games that have drastically different mechanics than past games. The core mechanics are all basically the same, not that there is anything wrong with that. The core gameplay mechanics in games like New Super Mario Bros. U are just as fun as they were 20 years ago. Which is where my problem with Play4fun's comment is, I don't see the point of knocking a mainstream game because it uses mechanics people like, just because they aren't new. The only reason I can see for doing that is if he just doesn't like the mechanics, in which case he should just say, "I don't like modern cinimatic 3rd person shooter gameplay" etc.

New technology will open up new gameplay possibilities tho the changes won't be as drastically different as they have in the past. But that has as much to do with the maturity of the medium as anything, 3D was the last real technological change that really changed the mechanics of the majority of games. Motion controls, touch screens etc have made small changes in how people interact with games, but for the most part the core mechanics are basically the same. You may have a bit finer control over your sword with motion controlls but you are still swinging the sword and hitting something, and Dead Island's analog combat system allows a similar level of control over a sword swing (in terms of angle) as a Wii mote.

Not upset me no, I just don't understand the reasoning behind it.

And as I have said what do you expect to see in terms of next gen gameplay mechanics? And what problem do you have with a game using gameplay mechanics the millions of people like?

Other than Zombie U (which could be done on a 3DS, or Smart Glass) what are these next gen mechanics? Asymmetric gameplay has existed for years, playing a 2D sidescroller while someone is pointing at the enviroment is a neat gimmick but the gameplay at it's core is still the same as any past 2D sidescroller.

Man, those graphics are impressive. It makes me wonder if this is a next gen title?
