Wii:
Virtual Console releases completely dried up after a year and a half of great releases
Third-parties made half-assed games and when they failed they blamed Nintendo and the consumer

3DS;
Not enough Virtual Console-games releases

It boggle my mind that many xbox only fans say this and refuse to get a PS3 (something you guys totally missing out btw!)

How sad can you guys be?!?

Perhaps he already has a standard Blu Ray Player, so it wouldn't worth it to spend $250 just for convenince?

Or he would use Blu Ray too infrequently to warrant the purchase of a $250 console? (Perhaps because he mainly watches digital movies)

Maybe?

To be fair, they did release most of the system's heavy hitters.  like, they gave us the Donkey Kong Country trilogy, Super Mario World, A Link to the Past, Mario RPG, and Mariokart, do you really need anything else? :P

That's just it, the fact that people feel this way is disheartening and gives creeedence to the idea that Graphics are super important, and that gamers care more about graphics than they do gameplay. This is a mentality I've been trying real hard to steer people away from.  Games like...well, anything on the Wii....prove that gameplay matters more than graphics, becuase simple stuff like New Super Mario Brothers sells more than any other game this gen (and no, I do not count the Wii titles, those are activities, not games).

This is why gaming sucks lately, all the focus is going towards making a game pretty or photorealistic rather than adding new gameplay elements or unique design choices.  Well, at least amongst the top tier AAA titles.  I find that saddening.

Speak with your wallet then, don't buy these games. Buy more creative ones, buy games that were huge risks for their publishers. The more we see these risks pay off the more risks we'll see publishers take.

I guess you can't really do this, because you write about games professionally and you always need to be in the know of the top AAA titles and maybe review them, but others with similar opinions should do this.

oh I totally vote with my wallet...I often buy games that I RESPECT even if I don't LIKE them just to encourage developers to make more unique gaming experiences.

I find it quite disheartening just how many people have a problem with the fact that the Wii is underpowered graphically....do you people really care so much about graphics? seriously? I thought we were above that.

It's not that the graphics disappoint, it's the low resolution that looks awful on big screen tv's.
I prefer the sly cooper collection and simple arcade titles over the giant pixels on the wii.

yeah, that I can agree with.  Skyward Sword was supposely a gorgeous looking game, but it looks like it was an early PS2 game when played on ym 40 inch 1080p screen TV.  Man, that game looked SO bad.  I didn't care, what made me dislike that game was the combination of linearity and fetch quests.  I just didn't like the gameplay in that one.

It is as great a flaw as any, I'd say.

I don't think saying graphics could be better means that you think graphics matter more than gameplay. Just that graphics matter. So if the graphics are lacking compared to the standards of today, that is a flaw (to most people).

I do agree that the focus is towards too much realism today, or rather "hollywood-realism", but there are always the creative and different games out there as well, especially if you try all of the different indie games on steam.

very true on both points.  I just find it silly that people actively care about graphics.  I mean, to me graphics are the icing on the cake.  If they are good, then it's a nice bonus, but if it's not good, I really don't care.  As long as the gameplay is good, and the other factors work, I can put  up with some jaggies or simple graphics.  Hell, Skyrim had some of the msot visual glitches I've ever seen and that game was consistently beautiful becuase of its artistic direction (seriously looking at the night sky in that game was awe-inspiring.)

But yeah, I prefer games like Wind Waker to Skyward Sword any day.

The PS3 could really use a better browser.

A note about multiplatform games. skyrim and mass effect 3 are not exactly PS3's faults, it's the developers' since customizing for a different architecture and fully taking advantage of the hardware is a time (and thus money) consuming process the developers or their companies have clearly shown their priorities and affiliations, i don't see in what way the PS3 is the problem. both are bad ports and not much could change that, the companies probably figured that going the extra mile to make the games perfect for the PS3 would not be justified by the sales

all things considered, that is the cost of having a completely new and innovative piece of hardware

It doesn't really bother me, but if we're going to talk about the system's flaws, it's too obvious not to mention. It has missed out on a lot of games because it couldn't run them without the game having to be heavily re-engineered. I guess I should have said "processing power" instead of "graphics."
