 The markup on the TV far exceeds the cost of a PS3. So while the TV department wont make as much, both divisions benefit.

The article actually infers 150k sold lifetime - so its possible that VG may be overtracking the PS3 in Australia.

I doubt this is shipped figures though, more likely to be sell through (but not positive).

Either way, the Wii is getting close to double the overall install base of the PS3 here - 300k vrs 150k. 

The Wii retails for around $380AU (with WiiSports), or around $420 (depending where) with WiiSports + some other game (usually not a great one).

The PS3 (40Gig) is $699 (with no games). I'm not sure if the other models are still being sold. 

There used to be a $899 PS3 that was the 60Gig + 2 games + extra controller (not sure if still around).

The 360 (premium) pack is around $580AU, and comes with three (?) games and a bunch of other stuff.

Wii games range from $40-$60 (cheapies), to $80 (normal price in most places) to $100 (at ripoff joints like EB).

Most PS3 games are either $100 or $120 - with some at $80 (older ones).

The telling thing is the TV advertising here. When the GC was out, there were NEVER TV ads - except occasional ones when Sunshine was released (etc). I regularly see Wii ads on TV *every* day. PS3 has a heap of advertising around Xmas as well, but seems to have dried up recently - although Sony is now pushing BluRay HARD in lots of places.

40gig PS3 is now $670.
I bought my 60gig for $980 which was the launch price.
The australian 60 gig has software based Backward Compat which is good since it uses less power than the US 60gig models with hardware based backward compatibility - i guess around 10watts less power,
and i have no ps2 games anyway - gave my only one away.

I'm not surprised that the PS3 is doing well, PS2 had a great time in ozland. I'm not sure it's doing better than the 360 or Wii though, and "set to overtake" can be manipulated to mean anything. Last time I checked (which was a month or so ago) 360 enjoyed a healthy lead each month, and Wii was just dominating. I'm guessing the writer thought that a few weeks of higher sales = on track to beat... not true though. Even though the effect of the 1 year lead isn't as big a thing here (in oz), it's still relevant and so long as the 360 still matches the PS3's sales (right now it's beating it), PS3 surpassing the 360 and Wii won't happen any time soon.

Just as a reference:
360's usually go for $550 with the pro pack (including FOrza 2 and Viva)
PS3's for the 40gb is RRP $699 but go for $650
Wii's are $348 (but RRP is $388)

BUT, if you are a bargain shopper, real figures are (which aren't hard to find in regular shops mind you):
360's for $490 approx
PS3's for $590
Wii's are $348 (yeah I know it's the same figure as above, but high demand means they ain't willing to budge)

EDIT: Spelling mistakes. Also, I find it ironic that Leo-J hates the ignorance of nintendo fanboys, while it is his ignorance towards the PS3 (being a sony fanboy) which leads him to be pwned multiple times a day by more knowledgeable members with proper facts.
