Forums - Sony - Jack Tretton defends Playstation Vita, says sales are "acceptable"

well supposedly vita wasn't being sold at a loss so as long as it isn't loosing sony money than i suppose it can be considered acceptable. certainly isn't anything to brag about though.

It's the $250 version that's selling at a loss, I think and the $300 version is selling at profit. Plus there's the propietary memory cards.

Well, relative to it's situation, then yeah I suppose it's doing well.

Gaming on: PS4 Pro, Switch, SNES Mini, Wii U, PC (i5-7400, GTX 1060)

The sales are acceptable in the sense that Sony has no choice but to accept them.

I think that when the Vita starts to fulfill the promises it made before launch, it will be okay. When we get
-Vita vs. PS3 play in games that matter
-Good PS3 games that let you carry on your saves in their Vita version
-PS3 titles that give you a free copy of the Vita version
-PS1 compatibility
-Wii U styled gameplay in select PS3 titles

Then, people will actually pony up the money for the device. Right now, as much as I love my Vita, it's really just a PSP with better graphics. It has so many other features and abilities that just aren't being used yet (if ever). Great hardware that's just going to waste, in my opinion.

The Dreamcast launch was considered a success.

You are correct.  I remember reading that, at the time, it held the record for the most money spent on entertainment in a single day, ever.

The only thing that I remember about the Dreamcast in that timeframe was mashing buttons in Sonic Adventure, but I did watch a documentary about it.

They might be acceptable, but they might not be desireable

Been away for a bit, but sneaking back in.

Gaming on: PS4, PC, 3DS. Got a Switch! Mainly to play Smash

I epic failed when I bought a few PSOne classics thinking I'd be able to play them on my Vita. Still waiting.

It's already fulfilling those 2...
* at least first party anyway.

PS One/2/p/3slim/Vita owner. I survived the Apocalyps3/Collaps3 and all I got was this lousy signature.

Xbox One: What are you doing Dave?

I still have hope Vita can turn things around and be successful

That sai anyone who thinks selling 40k units in an entire month in USA only 5 months after release is accesptable is kidding themselves

The PS1 classics shouldnt been available within the first 2 months.

The Vita was never going to skyrocket, when the DS, 3DS and the PSP still very popular in the martket. That is accesptable. But Sony really have to deliver with COD, Assassin's Creed, and those games. Its really not good enough.

The Vita is a great tool to use against the Wii U, but it also needs to establish itself as a handheld with proper handheld games, rather than just being the PS3's "mini me".
