Forums - Nintendo - Rumour: WiiU hitting Europe in December, before Thanksgiving in the US

Wii got released in December in Europe, so happening again is not really a problem. As long as it is before Christmas all is well.

At the Nintendo site the release date for Lego City is "in stores before Christmas 2012".
So far, nothing has changed.

Looking at Nintendo this past few years, I'd imagine a simultaneous release WW in mid November, perhaps earlier in the US to beat Black Friday.

It ain't coming in December, anywhere. Bar maybe Australia

Wii - Nov 2006 initial release, we got it in December.
3DS - Feb 2011 initial release, we got it in March.

I've expected the Wii U to release in December here for quite some time.

@Pavo: I tought it was more or less like this:
Anger leads to depression, depression leads to acceptance, acceptance... leads to bargainig.

And proud member of the Mega Mario Movement!

If we go by history, then it should launch Nov 18th US, Dec 1st Japan, and Dec 7th Europe.

But I think Nintendo should launch a week or two earlier so they can take better advantage of the holidays and have more time to sell the console.

Having it launch the same week as Black Friday in the US might cause supply issues like the Wii. Also, it may not be enough time for "Word of Mouth" to spread between holiday shoppers, as they may have already made their minds on what to buy for the holidays.

I'm ok with this. no point in getting sad about something that can't come before it comes. Nintendo wants the most sales and they will get them in the US of A so that is where they will release first.

though this isn't good for third party games releasing before that on other consoles in Europe as some of them are already late.

It would be wise if they release it just before december here in Europe. Especially here in the Netherlands, where the Sinterklaas holiday (december 5th) is much more important than Christmas if presents are concerned.
I think, but not sure, many other European countries have similar holidays end of november/beginning of december too.

No, I don't think anyother country in Europe celebrates anything like that :P here in Nothern Europe X-mas is the most important time for gifts...

I remember someone on this forum mentioning there is an important Spanish/Portuguese holiday in the first week of January (shortly after New Years) so there are other region specific holidays (whether any will have a negative impact due to Nintendo releasing too late though I don't know)

Yeah, it seems like there's quite a few regions here in EU that is more important than xmas regarding gifts... Nintendo really needs to launch it before december here as well!

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

i think the wii u shouldn't release too late after release of big games which come for wii u and ps3/360 because then many can't wait and will buy it for their old console instead for wii u which will reduce the sales for multiplat games on wii u. and it would be good for nintendo if third-party developers would sell as much as possible of their multi-plat games on wii u and not on 360/ps3.

if december will be the release, i maybe won't buy the games for wii u and buy them for 360/ps3 like assassins creed 3.

I guarantee it will release in US before Thanksgiving. Otherwise I will personally go up to Reggie and tell him "Hey, just becuase your body isn't ready, doesn't mean ours aren't!"
You have my word.
