Pretty neat idea. Like many have suggested, it's probably more of a slip-cover skin for the controller as it doesn't seem like the WiiU gamepad has a detachable faceplate, but I could be wrong.
Personally, I doubt I'll care because that black gamepad just looks great as is.
Every single console has faceplates for consoles as well as controllers. I don't see why this is surprising in any way.
But, I do look forward to seeing unique ideas and I hope we see some great controller plates like the red one above.

I can see one coming with Fallout 4 when it arrives to make your GamePad look even more like a Pip-Boy. Nice!

It was so awesome that it made d21 want to get them after reading about them in a thread of supposed 360 failures/mistakes. Not sure how it was a mistake for faceplates but apparently that is how shitty the article was.

This one is godly to me.
This is an useless accessory that can really improve gameplay, as paradoxal as that could be

Little off topic but I was just reading what you typed and I wondered why it sounds more correct saying this is a useless instead of an useless. I know it should be an because of the vowel but it just sounds wrong in my head. A useless sounds so much better to me... Maybe perhaps because I am insane with the membrane.
