I like the games, but enough is enough, this is like the fourth iteration, they havent even been true sequels, and the series only started this gen

Define "true" sequel

something like SF3 to SF4. oh sure BlazBlue does have a contininug story, but they are using the same moveset, same music same backgrounds. Its like a super expansion pack that comes on a disc, but then again I only bought the original and CS

So you want a new engine to run the game, basically. Because movesets, gameplay and balance have changed radically from ct to extend. And this looks like the biggest change yet.

at the very least I want different stages different music, MORE chararcters, not just adding two or three here in one version then add another two a year later in another version, thats BS to me. Something akin to the SF Alpha2-3. Dont need a whole new engine to run it.

If you have played the lastest games You should notice that almost ALL the backgrounds are NEW... there are 3 new characters and one redesigned! Thay have added some new gameplay features (overdrive system) and get out others (Break Burts)... be more objective aboout new characters... You will not find a Fighting game that can add more than 3 characters in a new interation! Is hard to create new characters and find balance between new and olds... anyway, ArkSystems games are known for their original and uniques characters... Is  a Quality over quantity fact...

And Recycling sprites, music, characters, is nothing new on this genre nor in the gaming industrie since EVER...^^ Enjoy the new features...

On the other hand, here are more images and details about the game (the article is in spanish, use Google to translate or use chrome ^^):

Super Street Fighter 4 added way more than 3 characters, then the Arcade edition added 4 more on top of that. Alpha 2 added more than 3 Alpha 3 added way more than 3 even put some people back in. Those are games of the top of my head, so dont say fighting games dont add more than 3 characters per iteration, thats just flat false. I stopped at Coontinum Shift, not because i didnt enjoy it, i did, but for what they are charging they hadnt add much, story was good, but the levels were the same, they added like 4 new characters and two of them had to be unlocked or DLC, so really its just 2. Then there was CS 2, Extend all released with a few years, kinda hard to keep up, but since you played them all, ill take your word for it. Ill wait till they have an addition that really goes balls to the wall

Yeah... Added... but were all those character NEW?! Specially in SSFIV... After El Fuerte, Rufus and C.Viper on the first game... is there any NEW character?! and Tekken 6 Added 4 characters on the first arcade itiration and two more on the next that was ported to consoles... is rare to see so much NEW characters on a new Game... so 3 isn't a bad number..

And the CS2 released ONLY on portable consoles (PSP and 3DS) on PS3 and 360 was a Update and You just have to pay for the DLC characters... and CS2 was originally a Arcade Version of CS+ DLC characters... Between First CS on PS3/360 and EXTEND there are more than ONE and HALF YEARS!...

I've wanted to get into the Blazblue series, but don't know where to start... I heard Blazblue Continuum Shift II Extend (Or whatever silly name it has) comes with Calamity Trigger too, so would I be better off getting that? I assume that means I get both games on the disc, so I'll be able to catch up with the story of both games by the time the third game comes out, right? (Assuming the third comes over to EU but I can't see why it wouldn't...)

It have a playable resume of calamity Trigger but not the whole Story Mode with the Normal/bad and Fun Endings... Just the notable fights and stories... it have too whole Continum Shift Story plus DLC characters Story modes...

I recomend you begin with the Extend if You want to try out this game for the Story (one of the best of this genration in any Genre!) if want just fighting... wait the chronophantasma... ;)

Hmm... so what IF I do this:

Buy the first game, Calamity Trigger, as well as Continuum Shift Extend to play afterwards, since you said it doesn't include the whole story... that way I get the full amount of story, right? And I can get the first game for dirt cheap right now anyway...

Would you recommend I do this?

GO and Do it NOW! but make sure to play the Calamity Trigger first! because the difference on gameplay between that and CS are BIG... You will have more than 15 hours of Story in each game and more on the Extend!

Have you even played those SF games? cause it sounds like you havent. THey added Juri and that weird oiled up bastard, THEN in arcade addition they brought back Yun and Yang and added Oni and Evil Ryu(this evil Ruy plays completly differently and looks different, which is why i consider him a new character). Thats two more right there.  So there you have it.

Ill give you CS2 because it sounds similar to SSF4AE, which is fine. BUt the first game was released in the US in 09, next year we got CS, and EXTEND just came out this year, thats 3 games since 09, its almost a yearly franchise at this point and the last one only added one character to the roster.  If thats your thing, then thats cool. But iMHO all its doing is discouraging people and confusing potential newcomers, with all these different versions of a series that JUST started a few years ago. Their not exactly expanding their user base this way.

correction, EXTEND was released last year, so it is a yearly franchise. Unless your a sports game or COD, i dont think you can get away with this in the long run

Yeah... Last year on japan (December 17 exactly...) and feb 2012 for western.. Continum Shift was released on July 2011... that's One and Half year isn't it?

And.. Kof was yearly release until KOFXI... SFIV was releasing yearly until last year... and MvC3 in less than a year had two release.. actually the same year were both released...

yes, and they were all the more crappy for it, IMHO. although the last SF4 doesnt really count cause the last update was just that an update, it was DLC, which is the way its SUPPOSED to be.  That was the only time Capcom got it right. KOF is the Madden of the fighting world in JAPAN, it was never released yearly outside of its home country except for in the arcades. But they added and change ed things so much with ever iteration that they are the least offensive of the bunch. Im not giving anyone a pass here, but BLazBlue seems to be running the risk of doing the same thing that annoyed SF players in the 90s and now. But unlike Capcom the game simply does not have the popularity of SF series that has been around since the damn late 80s or the Marvel brand that is hugely popular right now, they are running series fatigue IMHO, the sales are showing and that is kind of a damn shame because it is a good series

But the problem is that You don't see that ChronoPhantasma is a NEW game... Yeah it have the same  animations in most of the charactaers, but aren't gonna remake all characters just to satisfy some users... there are new features on gameplay, and the Story is Whole New... Backgrounds are WHOLE new too (something that You asked...)... I don't think the whole music score will be new but surethere will be some new additions.. specially in versus (example: Azrael vs Ragna score...)

You say that You haven't followed BB since the first Continum Shift... then.. why don't give a chance to ChronoPhantasma? You seem the type to more about roster and gameply and Story, so you shouldn't complain about missing CSextend stories...

If everything you say is true, then i will give it a try. I just dont like when series go for the yearly release thing, thats not me picking on BlazBlue in general, IMHO the only ones allowed to do that is sports games, and even then that might be a stretch, but i dont play those anyway. And i dont think I complained about the story??

Well.. I wouldn't pay yearly for a sport Game... those games should come every two year at least.. with one Yearly update! paid Update no problem... but paying yearly 60$ I can't...

And about the story, is that seemed that You don't cared about it... just that.

from Blazblue europe facebook webpage:

"Some more juicy Blazblue Chronophantasma news from the interview.

Other than Azrael, Bullet and Amane, Mori mentions that there's going to be an EXTREMELY cool hidden boss character!

Who do you think it's going to be!? and how are they going to fight!?"

Probably, will be Mu-12, Nu-13, and some others (until now non-playable) characters like: Kokonoe?, Phantom, jyuubei, Torakaka...
