Forums - Sony - Killer PlayStation Vita titles incoming, assures Sony

Sony is not paying enough attention to what makes Nintendo's handheld line so popular. What sells like crack on Gameboy/3/DS?
-Pokemon/Pokemon
-Mario
-Platform Zelda/Metroid/Castlevania
-Puzzle like Prof Layton Games.

Ok, now take a look at those Sony. I would KILL for an at least DECENT Pokemon clone on a PS handheld. NiNoKuni would have been a great one. If the PS3 version is successful, I would hope they could work something out to lock that down as a future Vita entry. At least Sony has Little Big Planet which is a great answer to Mario. God of War is a pretty good answer to Zelda. They need to get on coming up with a Prof Layton/ace attorney souless rip off as well.

If they could do these I think the Vita would be on the right track.

Hmm...so if sony makes anything similar to nintendo then they are rip offs but if they do something different then they didn't watch nintendo closely enough. As a sony fan I'd be upset if sony made a handheld that was to much like a gameboy. They have two different strategies for the market and that's the way I like it. Plenty of room for both :D

AC and Call of Duty are a decent start but what I really want to know is what SONY is going to publish for the platform. The games I enjoyed the most on PS3 are first party titles: God of War, Uncharted, Gran Turismo and so on. So far we haven't seen any big first party titles on the Vita after the launch period and I have a feeling Sony's studios are stuck between PS3, PS4 and Vita and the Vita got the lowest priority between those three consoles.

When the 3DS was in a bad shape last year we knew those first party titles were coming and Nintendo was fully supporting the platform so it was easy to justify owning a 3DS for me back then. With the Vita I really want to jump in but Sony looks like they don't even want to support their own handheld with all they got. They'd rather develop more PS3 and PS4 games leaving the Vita behind. And I really want the Vita to turn out great as I love my PSP.

That being said as long as Sony fully supports the platform (again: I want proof, Sony ) I have no fear about the Vita's future - give it two years and we'll have a system priced sub $200 with a broad range of great $20 platinum games to choose from and everyone will be happy. That's the great thing about first party games: They will be there no matter if the userbase is 80m or 40m consoles. Right, Sony...?

Well LittleBigPlanet Vita is coming out in September and Sly Cooper 4 later this year. So far they released Uncharted and Gravity Rush. That's four first party games so far in one year. Sounds like support to me.

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

I know what you mean. Its just I really want a Pokemon-like game on Vita(kept hoping and praying for one on PSP but never happened) and I don't see why it hasn't happened yet seeing as It is a perfect genre for handheld that NIN has proved to be unwavering yr after yr. I mean look at all the Monster Hunter spin offs(which by nature are tapping into the same collectathon game mechanics pokemon games do). I mean seriously, am I the only one that thinks that making a game such as this could be really good for the handheld?

Also I would like to point out this...

Many games this gen are total carbon copy rip offs of more well known titles that had a really good idea. Think: Dante's Inferno,God Eater, The New Tomb Raider, Quantic whatever(Gears Rip off on PS3), etc. Not talking about the particular success or failure of any of these, I want to point out the philosophy and mind set of them. The idea is that when there is a possible title that has an established fanbase but is either delayed indefinitely or exclusive to another console, it can be beneficial to get a game out there of similar nature if only to satiate those who would defect or start to feel jilted without it. Dante's Inferno capitalized on the lack of such a title as GoW on 360, and was marketed as such at many retailers. Prototype(although not technically an Infamous clone), was pushed as Infamous you can have on 360. Saints Row is GTA that you can play more often than twice a Generation. Point being, when there is a gap left by a large IP, imitations become welcomed.

Also the argument that people don't want these supposed "watered down ports" of console games seems to be one sided and only brought up when speaking of PSP/Vita games. Yet If you look at some of the MOST popular titles on 3/DS, you will see lots of Mario, Lots of Metroid, lots of Zelda, and for 3DS there is OoT Remake. All titles that frequently go back and forth from both. Yet when it is done on Playstation its "Oh NOs! That game is on PS3 so it can't be good on Vita!". Not to say this is any individual in particular but an argument I frequently see.

Uncharted Golden Abyss offers a pretty different experience to U3 on PS3. Its still kinda rough around the edges but I like how many things are implemented. Persona 4:Golden is a remake but its a Remake of an AWESOME game, why turn it down? Now I do agree that the whole "Cross Play is a bit of a double edged sword. Having some games sold on both is going to disadvantage the newer console with smaller fanbase. It does work in some instances tho, I was not getting Sly4 until I heard of Vita entry. Its a type of game that I would only want to play if it was portable. Now Sound Shapes design is ideal, buy one get both but we know how Publishers will feel about this one. Yet with the super simple porting process of Vita, its not like we are demanding something of nothing, it must cost chump change to port to that thing. It would give a since of more for your money and might increase total revenue for a game.

The truth about these supposed "Original IPs" that Sony is suppose to make is just a tad absurd to me. You think any device sells on an unproven IP? No, they sell on the belief that a title that has a pedigree and already established fanbase has or at least soon will come to the device. And in that open gap left in between the Known IPs it would be beneficial to satiate their hunger with what I spoke of earlier(Mimic games) and a few New IPs. Thats what Heavenly Sword was, a Mimic game(with its own personality of course) that was an inbetween GoW entry.

thoughts?

Actually the problem is that none of these is a great answer to anything Nintendo has. And all of them, except your proposed Prof Layton ripoff, are more prominent on consoles anyway and they'd jut fall in line with the complaints about the PSP and Vita about having "watered-down console spinoffs". The Vita needs new IPs to set it apart, not the same IPs that are better on consoles that you can just get on the PS3.

Well the reality of the entire debacle is that NOTHING is the caliber of Mario and friends, Nintendo has just been in the game for too long and mass appeal of their mascots is just too well known. Its an uphill battle regardless, well known IP or New IP be damnded. All Sony can do is experiment with doses of BOTH(See my comment above this one). The mimic titles satiate those who pine for what is already coming to the "other" camp and the established IPs keep the hardcore and loyal fanbases happy.

Sony need to release a new God of War game exclusively for the PS Vita before I'd be even remotely interested in purchasing one. It's Sony's most acclaimed and beloved (over 3 million fans on the FB fan page) series and their second biggest intellectual property behind GT so I imagine they have something GoW related planned for the Vita in the near future, I think they should remake the mobile phone game God of War: Betrayal for the Vita.

@ forevercloud I'm glad you see all the double standard ppl are throwing around. I agree with most of the things you said and I use to want a pokemon type game on sony. Now i want a dragon quest monster on vita. It's more of the type of world I hoped pokemon would become but they've made it pretty clear that's not going to happen. I mainly wish ppl would just enjoy games and stop hating everything else.

@justthatgamer Ppl always say vita needs a god of war but what would it be about? Ppl complain now about the new coming to ps3. Also I always think its funny when ppl have that one game that better be there or they won't get a system. Just never got that logic
