Forums - Sony - Sony Q1 numbers: 24.6 Billion yen loss (314 million dollars), cuts yearly forcasts

And unfortunately, despite my thoughts of the company returning to profitability this quarter, it posted at 316 million loss.... http://abcnews.go.com/Technology/wireStory/sonys-loss-grows-sales-recovery-16910421. Maybe people should concentrate more on Sony, than the usual Nintendo is doomed moto. To be honest, I'm quite saddened by this news.

Damn, hoped for a much smaller loss. What went wrong this time?

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

Gaming division made 1/5th of the loss of Nintendo. :/ Hope they return to profitability, even Panasonic is making a small profit.

Knew it.

@Fusion,
They spent 320 M buying EMI music, and didn't see any tax breaks. Additionally, in terms of movies, the review includes all of the expenditures of the spiderman movie, but none of the profits, as that will go into effect next quarter.

For further reference:
Sony's upocming slate includes Total Recall, Hope Springs, Sparkle, Looper, Hotel Transylvania, James Bond entry Skyfall, Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained (select international territories) and Kathryn Bigelow's untitled Osama bin Laden film, among others.

It's the 11th year in a row that Sony has reached the milestone, a notable feat. The studio jumped the $1 billion mark in foreign tickets sales earlier this month, putting it on course for one of its best years ever.

The Amazing Spider-Man is Sony's top earner of 2012, taking in $6.8 million over the weekend for a domestic total of $242.1 million (worldwide, the reboot has now grossed $654.8 million)."

So, it's not including 654m in spiderman sales, and has some pretty huge titles coming out shortly like total recall and james bond's skyfall. Both will see great box office sales.

Well, though the gaming lost minimal amounts, its mobile division was just horrendous, it lost alot of money because of that. Sony should really condense, they are really too scattered accross the board... :( Time to sell those shares if anyone has any, I don't see anything positive from their report indicating otherwise :S. It's really a sad day for the gaming market in general, Take-Two posts over 100 million loss this quarter, Sony and Nintendo both post negative earnings, EA losses 135 million this quarter; it's really bad. Only a handful are able to gather profits (Capcom, Sega most recently, Square Enix comes to mind). Though, to Nintendo's credit, it will most likely post positive earnings in this quarter as they are building momentum and the 3DS XL is sold at a profit and 3DS is no longer sold at a loss but at a manufacturing cost.
