Curious to see how much of their losses they've mitigated, heads will roll if nothing has changed.
| kowenicki said: Like I said in the other thread... If they have been cutting as savagely as it appears they have and they have managed to outsource or cease manufacturing of some of the loss making panels then they might see quite a quick turnaround. Sony never really had a problem selling and generating revenue, they were just extremely inefficient and had very low margins. It isn't really rocket science to correct that is it. |
Hopefully now that stringers gone, Kaz can reign in the losses and return to profitability. Does anyone know if sony has had a single profitable quater under Stringer?
Ms will return to profit next quarter, hopefully Nintendo and sony return by the end of this year.

They had a couple, I know in 2010 they did its just they havent been able to pool a full years worth of profits or have profits in enough quarters to offset bad ones.
Didn't Sony lose like 5 billion last quarter, seems weird if they could return to profitability so quickly. I'd be satisfied with a much smaller loss.
Sigs are dumb. And so are you!
Sony bought gaikai this past quarter for 300 mill so thats going to eat a chunk of what ever profitability they had.
The company had many divestitures and acquisitions this quarter also so those items will need to be backed out to get a real understanding of their earnings.

Before you make derogatory comments about Stringer, you should really inform yourself about the state Sony was in when Stringer came and the situation now. It is really embarassing to read all this unqualified nonsense about Sony/Stringer/Whoever from wannabe analysts.

$4b tax write off, Japan tsunami, Thailand flood.
I also think that may have been the quarter that they purchased Ericsson and EMI music.

A big chunk of that 5.7 billion was from paying off future taxes, but ya that Gaikai purchase isn't going to help anything, if they actually profit (which is doubtful) then Sony should see some nice return throughout the year.

That's harsher then it needed to be.
That said, stringer really did want to do a lot of cutting and consolidating.
He just didn't have the power to, being seen too much as an "Outsider" and with all the division heads against him.
