Forums - General - Why Yes, Those Claw Machines Are Rigged

When I was a kid, they had these games where you had to throw a basketball through a hoop to win a prize. Another kid grabbed my arm and said, "Hey, look at this."

He took me to the side of the game and showed me. No, it wasn't his penis, you perv. He showed me that, while the hoops looked perfectly normal from the front, they were actually really thin. They were oval shaped instead of round.

I thought for a sec you were going to mention this game...

when you stated that you went to the side (except the hoop part).  Back in the day when I used to go to Chuck E Cheese's with friends, we found out that it was easier to stand on the side and drop the balls in that way.  You just had to be tall enough to reach over the netting.

This was my favorite game though involving throwing balls...

Only 300 lbs FEED ME MORE!!!!

Yeah, I thought this was obvious. All prize games have a certain payout and often set up in such way that their appears to be skill. There is to a degree but really it is all percentage based. That is how arcades make money. Not to mention, most of the winnable prizes are cheap. I was actually once thinking of owning an arcade business.

In my area it is regulated by the gaming commission as a pseudo-gambling device.

95% of gamers don't know they are noobs, the 5% who do won't be noobs for long

I'm pretty sure most 'little kids' get their money from a parent though :P

(I do oppose the whole idea of selling cigarettes and similar products though. Imo that's one of the sickest businesses known to man.)

It is their choice to play the game. no one is forcing them to do so.

Now I know the mathematics behind it. It's pretty interesting actually.
The only decent thing I've gotten was a Donald Duck plush.

yeah sure because a 10 years old kid on a carnival knows how systems work to get peoples money^^

and no, parents aren't always with you if you have such carnival 100 meters away from your house if someone thinks it's the parents fault.

with lots even a kid kows that few will win and most not but how can a kid know that 9/10 times or something like that the claws aren't strong enough to pull a teddy or whatever?

The Japanese people beg to differ.

Nintendo is selling their IPs to Microsoft and this is true because:
