Forums - Gaming - So what did you guys think about episode of the "Annoyed Gamer?"

http://www.gametrailers.com/videos/qv6s2i/annoyed-gamer-episode-1--seven-year-console-cycle----really- *fixed*

This guy truly said some things about Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo which desperately needed to be said from a gamer perspective. This guy needs to get more time so he can grill platform executives on the real issues. Some one on one meetings would be a real catch, but hearing his opinion while controversial is great.

Not watched yet - but shouldn't your link be to the annoyed gamer episode and not invisible walls?

Marcus Beer generally comes across as an obnoxious, self-opinionated dick for whom I have little time so I don't expect to leave this with rave reviews. However if he focuses his often aimless and ignorant viewpoints into a cohesive and comical rant which brings relevent points in a humourous, British way I may be won over. We'll see now!

Oops! Sorry about that. Its fixed. I watched both.

Ehhhhhhhh it was okay. I just don't like Marcus Beer really, he was less of a dick in the video but it lacked that comical, witty edge I'd expect for someone to pull it off as a show with legs. If he can improve the writing, maybe get someone a bit more creative to help out it could be really fun.

He absolutely loathes Activision and Bobby Kotick so once he gets round to that it'll be worth watching.

Well Ive agreed and disagreed with him on invisible walls, but from a gamers perspective I respect his opinion. I think his first show was dead on and will seal the deal for future shows. This show can have wit, but its going to come from him attacking things he doesn't like about the industry. If we have the balls to confront the things we dont like about the industry maybe it will change for the better. Hes right that we've helped these companies become billion dollar entities and the return hasnt been as great as some of the platform companies have tried to sell us.

I didn't really agree with his rant on Microsoft and the Xbox. I think it's a great thing for consumers that we're not being forced to fork out another $400 on another console only 4 years after we bought the last. It's much better value for consumers - many 'rants' could be focused on how exploitative the 5 years lifecycle thing was. The very fact this episode had him going at the Vita launc lineup was kind of ironic, as demanding new consoles and stuff will quickly lead to him complaining about a lack of content on his shiny Xbox 720 4 months after launch. Especially if they rush the thing out like he's demanding.

A rant about how dragging this console cycle is, is fine, but I think he went at it from the wrong angle. Microsoft (And Sony too) are in many ways saving the consumer money and giving them maximum value by prolonging this cycle. He should of focused the rant on how far PC graphics have surpassed consoles now, rather then suggest Microsoft are trying to milk the thing on greed when infact many would argue it's the best possible thing for the consumer.

By far not the best thing for this consumer. I haven't used my 360 since ME2.
Games still come out for the previous console when a new one comes out. Well maybe not for the original xbox which got dropped like a rock but that wasn't the case for the ps2 and gc. Zelda TP, FF12 and GoW2 still looked great at the time. You don't have to buy a new console straight away. It's better to buy them 1 or 2 years in anyway. But that will be at least 3 years from now...
He should have said something about the Wii though, being dead in the water and all. The wiiU should have come out last holiday season and 720 this year. But it's nice of MS to give the ps4 a good start I guess.

We need new consoles so developers have room to experiment again without having to constantly worry about the screenshots. Every last bit of memory and cpu/gpu power is going into graphics now, innovation is done for AAA games this gen.

You may not agree with him about the 360 but in my opinion he's correct. Microsoft doesn't have as many studios active on AAA titles to still be focused on this generation and they definitely cannot hang with Sony in exclusives count. Sony could spread their varied selection of exclusives out for another two the three years. Microsoft has Gears and thats all she wrote. They need to show the 720 now because they are weak and the 360 is now seen as the casual console. After Halo and Gears its over. The Gears franchise has run its course and soon it will be strictly multiplats, Kinect and netflix/hulu for Microsoft (as it generally is now). 2013 is going to be all PS3 with the games that got pushed back to next year with the Wii U battling it out within the profitting window with their launch titles.  Microsoft has run its course and their development ability has proven itself to be quite slim to be following Sony into a ten year cycle. Kinect will run dry so Microsoft is lucky they have Halo this holiday season. The 360 is no longer affordable for the amount of years its been out. They need to drop the console price to $199 (The tech is bloody old). After seven years the PS2 was $99 and the 360 is still running off of DVD tech so they have no excuse. The PS3 is pretty much the last "gamers console" with a healthy dose of games this late in the gen.
