I didn't really agree with his rant on Microsoft and the Xbox. I think it's a great thing for consumers that we're not being forced to fork out another $400 on another console only 4 years after we bought the last. It's much better value for consumers - many 'rants' could be focused on how exploitative the 5 years lifecycle thing was. The very fact this episode had him going at the Vita launc lineup was kind of ironic, as demanding new consoles and stuff will quickly lead to him complaining about a lack of content on his shiny Xbox 720 4 months after launch. Especially if they rush the thing out like he's demanding. A rant about how dragging this console cycle is, is fine, but I think he went at it from the wrong angle. Microsoft (And Sony too) are in many ways saving the consumer money and giving them maximum value by prolonging this cycle. He should of focused the rant on how far PC graphics have surpassed consoles now, rather then suggest Microsoft are trying to milk the thing on greed when infact many would argue it's the best possible thing for the consumer. |
You may not agree with him about the 360 but in my opinion he's correct. Microsoft doesn't have as many studios active on AAA titles to still be focused on this generation and they definitely cannot hang with Sony in exclusives count. Sony could spread their varied selection of exclusives out for another two the three years. Microsoft has Gears and thats all she wrote. They need to show the 720 now because they are weak and the 360 is now seen as the casual console. After Halo and Gears its over. The Gears franchise has run its course and soon it will be strictly multiplats, Kinect and netflix/hulu for Microsoft (as it generally is now). 2013 is going to be all PS3 with the games that got pushed back to next year with the Wii U battling it out within the profitting window with their launch titles. Microsoft has run its course and their development ability has proven itself to be quite slim to be following Sony into a ten year cycle. Kinect will run dry so Microsoft is lucky they have Halo this holiday season. The 360 is no longer affordable for the amount of years its been out. They need to drop the console price to $199 (The tech is bloody old). After seven years the PS2 was $99 and the 360 is still running off of DVD tech so they have no excuse. The PS3 is pretty much the last "gamers console" with a healthy dose of games this late in the gen.
