Forums - PC - Need opinion on laptop I'm buying.

I have had an hp dv4t for over 3 years and it has been great, it has core 2 duo, 4 gb of ram, and a 320gb hard drive. I think I paid somewhere around $850 before tax.

Might be a bit pricey for a refurb, although I don't know the the US to Canadian dollar conversion. Besides that it's a nice laptop. You just need to be sure if you get it to get rid of the HP bloatware.

Not refurbished don't go by that.

Then I'd say go for it! Nice laptop for a good price.

I don't have good experiences with HP. 650 doesn't sound particulary cheap to me either.

A little too heavy though. And Gpu is a little weak. My 999 Laptop I bought recently beats my PS3 easily when it comes to graphics for 650 you can certainly find better things like

519 Euro Acer (NA is cheaper than Europe btw)
8gb DDR3
2gb Vram GT540m
15,6 inch
I5 Intel
Blueray/DVD Combo
750gb
2 USB 2.0/1 USB 3.0

The laptop is a little overpriced from my point of view you can get more RAM better GPU USB 3.0 Brands like (Asus/Acer/Lenovo) and eventually Bluray/DVD 15-17 inch for the same price, atleast you should be able to.

It's a little better than mine (I've got the G6 series), and I can run LoL on max, minecraft on max, tf2 on max, gta 4 on medium, arma2/dayz on medium - it's very good

Don't care about portability it's basically gonna stay on the desk where my desktop is, 6 GB of ram is plenty for anything today, I don't think there's anything (other then the odd new game which I won't be playing) that requires more. 17" screen which I do want, like I said I don't care to much for portability. Don't care about disk drives (blu-ray), everything I use is digital (usb), can't remember the last time I used a disk in my computer. Don't need usb 3.0. So all that extra crap that drives up the price is pointless to me.

Also I couldn't buy Acer, their not exactly known for making high quality products, there's a reason why their so cheap.

Was just the first I clicked on. Also I never said it drives up the price to have those things. I am going to look for Asus/Lenovo with better GPU more Ram or bigger HD for 650 just to see if I get a better offer.

Alright thanks, let me know what you can find, I looked everywhere and this seemed like the best deal.

If you aren't in a hurry to buy. I bet when Windows 8 comes out later this year, the prices on a lot of current laptops will fall. Well at least that is what I am hoping, since I have been putting off getting a new one until then.

@Gilgamesh

I had no time to look properly yet but I found an Lenovo 15.6 with a Sandy bridge I7 Quadcore (tops I5 Dualcore) and a GT555 (way stronger than 6470) 8gb Ram for 699 I filled out the form it works with Coupon and they are still valid.

Sadly less resolution (smaller Display though similar Pixel density) and just 500 gb but 7200rpm (faster)

Go to

Ignore the 1200 pricetag just go further don't select anything at the end you have to type the coupon code DOORBUSTERDEAL on the right and it will be 699. It worked for me. Haven't tried it with Canada as region though.

Battlefield 3 runs better and looks prettier on this thing than on PS3/360.

If I have time I will look further into it tomorrow

I also saw some better offers from HP/Dell which were already expired.

$650 is good for that. I bought a laptop a month and a half ago for slightly less than that with almost the exact same specs, and i only got the discount because it was a floor model that i was buying up on clearance.

So yes, that's a good deal.
